Bob Saget

Robert Lane Saget (May 17, 1956 – January 9, 2022) was an American stand-up comedian, actor, director, and television host. He was widely recognized for playing Danny Tanner on the sitcom Full House and its sequel series Fuller House, serving as the original host of America's Funniest Home Videos, and narrating the sitcom How I Met Your Mother as the voice of future Ted Mosby. Throughout his career, he maintained a distinct dual profile, known both for his family-friendly television roles and his adult stand-up comedy persona.

Saget was born into a Jewish family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During his youth, his family moved between Norfolk, Virginia, Los Angeles, California, and the Philadelphia area. He graduated from Abington Senior High School and went on to attend Temple University's film school, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1978. While at Temple, he earned an award of merit in the Student Academy Awards for his student film, Through Adam's Eyes, and began performing stand-up comedy at clubs in New York City.

After a brief role on CBS's The Morning Program in early 1987, Saget achieved wide recognition when he was cast as Danny Tanner on Full House, a role he played from 1987 to 1995. In 1989, he became the host of America's Funniest Home Videos, hosting the series until 1997. He later reprised his role as Danny Tanner in 15 episodes of Fuller House from 2016 to 2020 and returned for a 20th-anniversary special of America's Funniest Home Videos in 2009.

As a director, Saget helmed the 1996 television film For Hope, inspired by his sister Gay's death from scleroderma, and his first feature film, Dirty Work, in 1998. He also wrote, directed, and starred in the 2007 direct-to-DVD film Farce of the Penguins. His television career extended to starring in Raising Dad, hosting the game show 1 vs. 100, narrating How I Met Your Mother from 2005 to 2014, and making recurring appearances on Entourage. He also starred in the sitcom Surviving Suburbia, documented unusual lifestyles in Strange Days, appeared on Broadway in The Drowsy Chaperone, and competed on The Masked Singer.

Saget toured as a stand-up comedian and released several comedy projects. His 2007 HBO special That Ain't Right was dedicated to his father, and his 2014 comedy album That's What I'm Talkin' About earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Comedy Album. In 2014, he published a book titled Dirty Daddy and toured internationally. He later released the stand-up special Bob Saget: Zero to Sixty in 2017 and launched the podcast Bob Saget's Here for You in 2020.

Off-screen, Saget served on the board of directors for the Scleroderma Research Foundation. He was married to Sherri Kramer from 1982 until their divorce in 1997, and they had three daughters. He married Kelly Rizzo in 2018. Saget died on January 9, 2022, at the age of 65 in Orange County, Florida, due to blunt head trauma resulting from an accidental blow to the head.
