Candace Helaine Cameron Bure is an American actress, author, and former talk show panelist. She is best known for portraying Donna Jo "D. J." Tanner on the sitcom Full House and its spinoff Fuller House, Summer van Horne in the drama series Make It or Break It, and the title character in the Aurora Teagarden television film adaptations for the Hallmark Channel.
Born Candace Cameron on April 6, 1976, in Panorama City, California, she was raised by her parents, Barbara, a homemaker and manager, and Robert Cameron, a former school teacher. She grew up alongside three siblings, including actor Kirk Cameron, and became a Christian at the age of twelve.
Cameron began her acting career with early television guest roles on series such as St. Elsewhere, Growing Pains, Who's the Boss?, and Punky Brewster. In 1987, she appeared in the teen film Some Kind of Wonderful and landed her breakthrough role as D. J. Tanner on Full House. She starred as the oldest daughter of Danny Tanner throughout the show's eight-season run, which concluded in 1995. During this period, she also appeared in the feature film Punchline, the television movie Camp Cucamonga, and co-hosted the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards in 1990 and 1994.
Following the conclusion of Full House, she guest-starred on series like Cybill and Boy Meets World, and appeared in several television movies, including No One Would Tell, She Cried No, and NightScream. After taking a self-imposed hiatus to focus on her family, she returned to television acting in 2009 with a main role on Make It or Break It, which ran through 2012. In 2014, she competed on season 18 of Dancing with the Stars, placing third.
From 2015 to 2016, Bure served as a co-host on the daytime talk show The View for its 19th and 20th seasons. She reprised her main role as D. J. Tanner-Fuller in the Netflix spinoff Fuller House from 2016 until the series concluded in 2020. In April 2022, she transitioned into an executive role as chief content officer at Great American Media, developing, producing, and starring in original television programming.
Throughout her career, Bure has starred in over two dozen Hallmark Channel films, including the eighteen-film Aurora Teagarden mystery series, Switched for Christmas, and A Christmas Detour. She has also authored four books, including her 2011 New York Times best seller Reshaping It All, as well as Balancing It All, Dancing Through Life, and Kind Is the New Classy. In 2025, she competed on season thirteen of The Masked Singer.
In her personal life, she married Russian-American NHL hockey player Valeri Bure in June 1996 after being introduced by her Full House co-star Dave Coulier in 1994. The couple has three children and resides in California.
