Carson began dance training at three years old, building expertise across multiple disciplines including ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, contemporary, lyrical, Latin, and standard ballroom. Following her graduation from American Fork High School, she briefly attended Utah Valley University to study ballroom dance.
Carson first achieved national prominence in 2012 as a top-twenty contestant on the ninth season of the Fox reality competition series So You Think You Can Dance. After reaching the semi-finals, she returned to the program the following year as an all-star performer.
In early 2013, Carson joined the cast of the reality competition show Dancing with the Stars as a troupe member. She was elevated to a professional partner in 2014 for its eighteenth season. Over her tenure on the series, she achieved notable success, including winning season 19 alongside actor Alfonso Ribeiro and season 34 alongside wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin. She achieved runner-up finishes with actors Milo Manheim and Kel Mitchell, and earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Choreography for her work on the show.
Beyond her primary television role, Carson appeared in the musical film Dancin': It's On! and served as a card dealer on the game show Catch 21. She also made history on Dancing with the Stars by competing in a season while four months pregnant.
In her personal life, Carson married her high school sweetheart, Carson McAllister, in late 2015 and early 2016 through civil and religious ceremonies in Salt Lake City. Prior to her professional debut on Dancing with the Stars, she successfully underwent two surgeries to treat melanoma. Carson and her husband have two sons and reside in Orlando, Florida.
