Brown was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to parents Robert Walker Brown and Susanne Brown, and was raised in Tuscaloosa and nearby Northport. She attended Tuscaloosa County High School before earning a degree magna cum laude from the College of Communication and Information Sciences at the University of Alabama in 2017. During her college years, she was a member of the Alpha Upsilon chapter of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Following her graduation, she worked as an interior designer in Northport.
Her pageantry career began at age 15 in local Alabama teen competitions. She finished as first runner-up in Miss Alabama's Outstanding Teen 2010 and second runner-up in Miss Alabama Teen USA 2011. After unplaced entries in Miss Alabama 2013 and Miss Alabama USA 2017, she won the title of Miss Alabama USA 2018 representing West Alabama. This title allowed her to compete at Miss USA 2018, where she promoted a platform focused on mental health awareness based on her personal experiences with anxiety and depression. She concluded her reign in November 2018 after crowning her successor, Hannah McMurphy.
In late 2018, Brown appeared on season 23 of The Bachelor featuring Colton Underwood, placing seventh overall. In March 2019, she was announced as the lead for season 15 of The Bachelorette, becoming the first lead in the show's history who had not placed in the top four of her Bachelor season. On the finale, she became engaged to Jed Wyatt, though they later ended their relationship. She won The Competition Contestant of 2019 at the 45th People's Choice Awards for her role on the show. Later in 2019, Brown competed on season 28 of Dancing with the Stars paired with professional dancer Alan Bersten, ultimately winning the competition on November 25, 2019.
Following her television success, Brown transitioned into publishing. In 2023, she participated in the first season of Fox's reality series Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, completing all 10 days of selection. She signed a two-book deal with Grand Central Publishing's imprint Forever, releasing her debut romance novel, Mistakes We Never Made, co-authored with Emily Larrabee in May 2024. The novel debuted at number 15 on The New York Times Best Seller list.
In her personal life, Brown began dating Adam Woolard in early 2021, and the couple got engaged in August 2023. They were legally married on June 21, 2025, in Tennessee, followed by a ceremonial wedding on July 26, 2025, in France.
