Born in Moscow on September 16, 1983, Savchenko began his training in dance at eight years old. He eventually expanded his career into international ballroom dance and television choreography.
Savchenko launched his reality television franchise career in 2012 on the twelfth season of Australia's Dancing with the Stars alongside model Erin McNaught, placing 11th. In 2013, he joined the American version of Dancing with the Stars for season 16 with Lisa Vanderpump, finishing in 10th place, and performed as a troupe member in season 17. That same year, he appeared briefly on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
In 2015, Savchenko joined the Russian adaptation Танцы со звёздами for its ninth season, securing a second-place finish alongside Olympic figure skater Adelina Sotnikova. He subsequently relocated to the UK to participate in the thirteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing, reaching fifth place with presenter Anita Rani before opting not to return for the following series.
Rejoining the U.S. Dancing with the Stars in season 23, Savchenko placed fourth with singer Jana Kramer. Over subsequent seasons, he competed alongside partners such as Erika Jayne, Sasha Pieterse, Arike Ogunbowale, Nikki Glaser, Chrishell Stause, Melanie C, Mira Sorvino, Brooks Nader, and Hilaria Baldwin. He reached fourth place twice more: in season 28 with country singer Lauren Alaina and in season 31 with drag queen Shangela.
Beyond dance competitions, Savchenko appeared on the British culinary program Celebrity MasterChef in 2016. In 2018, he won the inaugural season of the reality series Celebs on the Farm. In early 2023, he featured as himself and served as best man in the wedding miniseries Nikki Bella Says I Do.
In his personal life, Savchenko was married to fellow professional dancer Elena Samodanova for 14 years before the couple announced their separation in November 2020. They share two daughters, Olivia, born in 2010, and Zlata, born in 2017.
