About Kate Gosselin
Katie Irene "Kate" Gosselin (née Kreider) is an American former television personality and nurse. She is best known for her appearances on reality television programs documenting her life with her twins and sextuplets, most notably the reality series Jon & Kate Plus 8 and its follow-up series Kate Plus 8.
Kreider was born on March 28, 1975, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center to Charlene and Kenton Kreider, a pastor. She is of German, Scottish, and English descent, and grew up as the third of five children alongside three sisters and one brother. She completed nursing school at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center and began her career as a labor and delivery nurse in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.
In October 1997, she met Jon Gosselin, and the couple married in June 1999. Due to polycystic ovary syndrome, she underwent fertility treatments to conceive. She gave birth to twin daughters, Cara Nicole and Madelyn Kate, in October 2000. Following further treatments, she gave birth to sextuplets—sons Aaden, Collin, and Joel, and daughters Alexis, Hannah, and Leah—in May 2004 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Born ten weeks premature, the sextuplets required initial ventilator support.
The family initially appeared on the NBC show Home Delivery and two Discovery Health specials documenting their multi-child family. In April 2007, Discovery Health launched the reality series Jon & Kate Plus 8, which later moved to TLC. Following the couple's separation and divorce in 2009, the show was renamed Kate Plus 8. The series underwent multiple cancellations, hiatuses, and revivals before airing its final three-episode sixth season in 2017.
Gosselin subsequently appeared on several other television broadcasts. She competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2010, appeared on Celebrity Wife Swap in 2013, participated in season seven of Celebrity Apprentice, and starred in the TLC dating show Kate Plus Date in 2019. In 2023, she appeared on Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, exiting during the first episode due to a physical injury.
In addition to her television work, Gosselin has written three non-fiction books. Her first book, Multiple Blessings, was published in 2008 and reached number five on The New York Times Best Sellers list. She followed this with Eight Little Faces in 2009 and I Just Want You To Know in 2010, both of which also achieved New York Times Best Seller status.
Following her 2009 divorce, during which she was granted primary custody of her children and ownership of the family home, Gosselin engaged in legal disputes with her ex-husband. Custody of two of the sextuplets, Hannah and Collin, was eventually awarded to their father. In March 2021, Gosselin relocated to Troutman, North Carolina, with four of her children and obtained her multi-state registered nurse license in North Carolina later that year.
