Dr. Drew

David Drew Pinsky, widely known as Dr. Drew, is an American media personality, internist, and addiction medicine specialist. He is best known for hosting the syndicated radio talk show Loveline and various television programs focusing on health, relationships, and addiction. In addition to his media work, Pinsky maintains a private internal medicine practice in South Pasadena, California, and formerly served on staff at medical institutions such as Huntington Memorial Hospital and Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena.

Pinsky was born on September 4, 1958, in Pasadena, California, to Morton Pinsky, a physician, and Helene Stanton, a singer and actress. He completed high school at Polytechnic School in 1976 before attending Amherst College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in biology in 1980. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine in 1984. Pinsky completed his internal medicine residency at USC County Hospital and served as chief resident at Huntington Memorial Hospital before entering private practice.

While still a medical student in 1984, Pinsky began his radio career appearing on a segment called Ask a Surgeon on KROQ-FM, which evolved into the talk show Loveline. He co-hosted Loveline alongside hosts including Jim Trenton, Adam Carolla, and Mike Catherwood. The show went into national syndication in 1995, and Pinsky remained with the broadcast until its conclusion in April 2016. He hosted other radio shows, including Dr. Drew Live and Dr. Drew Midday Live, and launched multiple podcasts, such as The Dr. Drew Podcast, The Adam and Drew Show, Dr. Drew After Dark, and Ask Dr. Drew.

Pinsky expanded into television in 1996 with an MTV adaptation of Loveline. He later hosted educational shows, including Strictly Sex with Dr. Drew, Strictly Dr. Drew, and Sex...with Mom and Dad. He achieved further public prominence on VH1 by producing and starring in Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, along with its spinoffs Sober House and Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew. He also hosted the daytime series Lifechangers on The CW and Dr. Drew On Call on HLN. His screen credits include roles in series such as Family Guy, Dawson's Creek, and The Midnight Gospel, as well as appearances in films like New York Minute and Wild Hogs.

Beyond broadcasting, Pinsky co-founded the advice website DrDrew.com in 1999 and authored the 2003 book Cracked: Putting Broken Lives Together Again. He contributed to the 2004 book When Painkillers Become Dangerous and narrated documentaries including Divorce Corp and Teen Species. In 2020, he joined Aditxt Therapeutics as a senior advisor. In recognition of his work, Asteroid 4536 Drewpinsky was named in his honor, and he received the Larry Stewart Leadership and Inspiration Award at the PRISM Awards in 2008.

Pinsky married Susan Sailer on July 21, 1991, and the couple has triplets born in November 1992. He resides in Pasadena, California, where he engages in fitness activities such as running and weight training, and maintains an interest in singing opera.
