D'Amato was raised in Los Angeles by her mother following her parents' divorce when she was seven years old. She began her modeling career at the age of 12. Prior to her television breakthroughs, she participated in runway shows and print campaigns internationally for major brands such as Barneys New York, Guess, XOXO, H&M, Levi's, The Gap, Target, and Coca-Cola, while also appearing in prominent fashion magazines.
D'Amato was selected to compete on Cycle 5 of America's Next Top Model. Recognized during the season for her outgoing personality and competitive focus, she won two challenges and was eliminated in seventh place during her time in London. She later appeared as an assistant in Cycle 6, providing posing lessons to contestants alongside Janice Dickinson.
