About Ian Bohen

Ian Stuart Bohen is an American actor born on September 24, 1976. He is best recognized for portraying Peter Hale on the MTV drama Teen Wolf and playing cowboy wrangler Ryan on the Paramount Network series Yellowstone. He also gained attention for his recurring television work, including his turn as beatnik Roy Hazelitt in the AMC series Mad Men.

Raised in Carmel, California, Bohen spent extended summer periods on his grandfather's Wisconsin livestock ranch starting around the age of eight or nine, where he learned to ride horses. He launched his acting career in 1993 with a debut in Todd Field's AFI Conservatory project Delivering. The following year, he portrayed a younger version of Kevin Costner's character in Lawrence Kasdan's Oscar-nominated feature film Wyatt Earp.

In 1997, Bohen was cast as Young Hercules in flashback sequences for Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, later reprising the role in the television film Young Hercules. Although a spin-off children's series was commissioned, he declined to continue in the role to avoid moving permanently to New Zealand. Between 1998 and 2001, he appeared in ten episodes of Any Day Now as Johnny O'Brien. He subsequently played beatnik Roy Hazelitt in the inaugural season of Mad Men, a character connected to Midge Daniels and Don Draper.

Bohen guest-starred across four episodes of Major Crimes in 2012 as Daniel Dunn, the biological father of Rusty Beck. From 2011 to 2017, he appeared as the morally ambiguous character Peter Hale in MTV's Teen Wolf, featuring in 42 episodes over the show's run. He appreciated the creative challenge of the role and valued the program's inclusion of LGBT relationships on screen.

Bohen's film appearances include Taylor Sheridan's 2016 directorial feature debut Wind River and the 2018 action sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado. In June 2018, he secured his recurring role as wrangler Ryan in Yellowstone. Later that year, he played German professor Freddy Bhaer opposite Jo March in a modern movie adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, released to coincide with the book's 150th anniversary.

Bohen later recurred as Mitch Anderson in the second season of Superman & Lois. He rejoined original cast members to reprise his role as Peter Hale in a Teen Wolf reunion movie written and executive produced by Jeff Davis for Paramount+, announced in September 2021 and released in January 2023. In February 2024, he co-starred alongside Katherine McNamara in James Bamford's action thriller Air Force One Down.
