Rodríguez was born on July 29, 1987. She was raised by her parents, Cuban model Luisa Carolina "Carol" Pérez Rodríguez and Venezuelan performer José Luis Rodríguez, an actor and singer known by the nickname "El Puma." Her parents wed in 1996. As a child, she gained early performing experience as a young dancer on the Venezuelan children's show El Club de Los Tigritos. After moving back to Miami, Florida, she pursued her education through private tutoring while launching her screen acting career.
Rodríguez began her professional acting path with prominent roles in Spanish-language television. She starred in several Telemundo telenovelas, including Prisionera in 2004, followed by a dual starring role as Rosita Amado and Violeta Hurtado in the primetime series Dame Chocolate in 2007. She later appeared in Doña Bárbara from 2008 to 2009. Alongside her telenovela work, she secured a recurring part on the long-running NBC daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives, in which she performed from November 2005 through January 2006.

She continued working in movies in 2013, appearing as FBI Agent Ellen Richards in the action film The Last Stand, portraying Marisol in the comedy Identity Thief, and co-starring with Paul Walker in the drama Hours. Her film credits further grew with appearances in Tusk in 2014 and Run All Night in 2015.
Beyond live-action cinema, Rodríguez provided the voice for the character Honey Lemon in the 2014 Disney animated movie Big Hero 6.
