Cheryl Tweedy

Cheryl Ann Tweedy is an English singer, television personality, and style icon. She initially rose to prominence as a member of Girls Aloud, an English pop girl group formed in 2002 through the ITV reality competition show Popstars: The Rivals. Girls Aloud achieved major commercial success, becoming the United Kingdom's best-selling girl group of the 21st century and securing twenty consecutive top-ten singles on the UK Singles Chart.

Born on 30 June 1983 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Cheryl grew up on council estates in the suburbs of Walker and Heaton. She is the fourth of five children born to Joan Callaghan, and the first of two children with Garry Tweedy. Interested in dance from an early age, she began sequence dancing at age four and attended a short summer course at the Royal Ballet School's Summer School at age nine. As a child, she appeared in a television advertisement for British Gas and performed in dance recitals on television shows such as Gimme 5.

In 2002, Cheryl qualified for Girls Aloud alongside Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh. Their debut single, "Sound of the Underground," peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart. The group went on to achieve two UK number-one albums, five consecutive platinum-selling studio albums, and five Brit Award nominations, winning Best Single for "The Promise" in 2009. Recognized as the "Most Successful Reality TV Group" by Guinness World Records, the group pursued solo projects starting in 2009, went on hiatus in 2013, and later reunited for a tour in 2024.

Cheryl launched her solo career in April 2009 with her debut album, 3 Words, which spent two weeks at number one in the UK and was certified triple platinum. Between 2009 and 2014, she released four studio albums, including Messy Little Raindrops, A Million Lights, and Only Human. Five of her solo singles—"Fight for This Love", "Promise This", "Call My Name", "Crazy Stupid Love", and "I Don't Care"—reached number one on the UK singles chart, making her the first British female solo artist to achieve five UK number-one singles.

In 2008, Cheryl became a judge on the British television talent show The X Factor, mentoring eventual winners Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry. She briefly joined the panel of the American edition in 2011 before returning to the UK show in 2014 and 2015. Her television projects also include hosting the 2009 special Cheryl Cole's Night In and judging the dance competition The Greatest Dancer from 2019 to 2020. In 2023, she made her West End stage debut in 2:22 A Ghost Story, and she is set to serve as a coach on The Voice UK in 2027.

In addition to her music and television work, Cheryl became a recognized style icon, gracing the covers of British Vogue, Elle, and Harper's Bazaar. She served as a face for the cosmetic company L'Oréal from 2009 to 2018. During her 2012 A Million Lights Tour, she offered special meet-and-greet ticket options to raise funds for her charity, The Cheryl Cole Foundation.
