About Tim McGraw
Samuel Timothy McGraw (born May 1, 1967) is an American country singer and actor who has sold over 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He has released 17 studio albums, ten of which reached number one on the Top Country Albums charts. Among his 65 singles, 25 reached number one on the Hot Country Songs or Country Airplay charts. His honors include three Grammy Awards, 14 Academy of Country Music awards, 11 Country Music Association awards, 10 American Music Awards, and three People's Choice Awards, as well as induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2026.
McGraw was born in Delhi, Louisiana, to Elizabeth Ann D'Agostino and Frank Edwin "Tug" McGraw Jr., a minor league pitcher who became a star pitcher for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. Raised believing his stepfather was his biological father, McGraw used his stepfather's surname until discovering his birth certificate at age 11. The elder McGraw acknowledged parentage when Tim turned 18, after which they remained close until Tug's death in 2004. McGraw attended Northeast Louisiana University on a baseball scholarship as a pre-law major, but after a knee injury ended his athletic career, he learned guitar and dropped out in 1989 to pursue a music career in Nashville.
McGraw signed with Curb Records in 1990. After an unsuccessful 1993 self-titled debut album, he achieved a breakthrough with his 1994 album Not a Moment Too Soon, which became the top country album of 1994 and generated his first country number-one single, "Don't Take the Girl." He followed with successful albums including All I Want (1995), Everywhere (1997)—which earned the CMA Album of the Year award—and A Place in the Sun (1999). Three of his singles, "It's Your Love," "Just to See You Smile," and "Live Like You Were Dying," were named top country songs of their respective years by Billboard.
In 2000, McGraw released his first Greatest Hits album, followed by Set This Circus Down in 2001 and Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors in 2002, recorded with his touring band. He has also embarked on major concert ventures, including the Soul2Soul II Tour with his wife, Faith Hill, which became one of the highest-grossing country music tours in history.
McGraw has acted in supporting film roles such as Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom, Four Christmases, The Blind Side, Tomorrowland, and The Shack, as well as flashback scenes in Yellowstone. He took lead roles in Flicka (2006), Country Strong (2010), and the series 1883 (2021). Additionally, he was a minority owner of the Arena Football League's Nashville Kats. McGraw married singer Faith Hill in 1996.
