Amber Heard

Amber Laura Heard is an American actress born on April 22, 1986, in Austin, Texas. She is best known for her film and television roles, including her portrayal of Mera in the DC Extended Universe superhero films Justice League (2017), Aquaman (2018), and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023). Heard secured her first leading film role in the slasher movie All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006) and has since worked across a wide variety of film genres and television productions.

Heard grew up outside Austin as the middle child of internet researcher Patricia Paige and construction company owner David Clinton Heard. In her youth, she rode horses, hunted, fished, and participated in beauty pageants. Raised Catholic, she began identifying as an atheist at age sixteen after her best friend died in a car crash, an event that also led her to read the works of Ayn Rand. At seventeen, she dropped out of high school to pursue acting in Los Angeles, later earning her diploma through a home-study course.

Heard began her acting career with appearances in music videos for artists Kenny Chesney and Eisley, alongside minor television roles in series such as Jack & Bobby, The Mountain, and The O.C. She made her feature film debut in the 2004 sports drama Friday Night Lights and appeared in supporting roles in movies like North Country (2005) and Alpha Dog (2006). In 2007, she landed a starring role in The CW's teen drama series Hidden Palms.

She achieved mainstream recognition in 2008 with supporting roles in the comedy Pineapple Express and the martial arts film Never Back Down. Over the following years, Heard appeared in films such as The Joneses (2009), Drive Angry (2011), and The Rum Diary (2011), and starred in NBC's short-lived drama series The Playboy Club (2011). In 2011, she also featured in an advertising campaign for the fashion brand Guess.

Between 2013 and 2016, Heard appeared in projects including Paranoia, Machete Kills, 3 Days to Kill, Magic Mike XXL, The Danish Girl, and The Adderall Diaries. She starred in the feature adaptation London Fields (2018) and reprised her role as Mera in Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021). Her subsequent work includes the Paramount+ miniseries The Stand (2020–2021), the feature film In the Fire (2023), and the stage play Spirit of the People (2025).

Beyond acting, Heard has engaged in civil rights and international humanitarian work. In 2016, she became an ACLU Artist Ambassador, and she has served as a Human Rights Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights while partnering with Amnesty International and the Syrian American Medical Society. Heard was married to actor Johnny Depp from 2015 to 2017, after which the two were involved in high-profile defamation trials in the United Kingdom and the United States.
