Throughout the 2000s, Tucker built a steady film resume. He appeared in the comedy 100 Girls, the independent thriller The Deep End, the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the crime drama Hostage. Director Paul Haggis cast Tucker in multiple projects, including the film In the Valley of Elah, the television series The Black Donnellys, and the thriller The Next Three Days. Tucker also portrayed artist Patrick Angus in the biographical film An Englishman in New York and starred in the horror movie The Ruins.

In television, Tucker landed recurring and main roles across several genres. He played Mayor Bob Little in Parenthood and starred as a mixed martial artist in the drama series Kingdom, a performance that earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor from Entertainment Weekly. His other television credits include antagonist roles in Justified, Hannibal, American Gods, the crime series City on a Hill, and the science fiction drama Debris.

In addition to screen acting, Tucker provided motion capture and voice work for the central character PFC Robert Zussman in the video game Call of Duty: WWII, and he co-wrote a song for artist Nick Jonas.
