Mireille Enos

Mireille Enos is an American actress who gained widespread recognition for her starring performance as homicide detective Sarah Linden in the television drama series The Killing.

Born on September 22, 1975, in Kansas City, Missouri, Enos is the daughter of a French teacher mother and an American father from Texas. She grew up fluent in French alongside two brothers and two sisters, including an older sister who serves as a vice president at The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Her family relocated to Sugar Land, Texas, when she was five years old. She received initial acting instruction at Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and later studied theater at Brigham Young University, where she earned the Irene Ryan Award at the Kennedy Center. She left the university during her third year to relocate to New York City.

Enos made her screen acting debut in the 1994 television movie Without Consent and entered feature films with a minor appearance in the 2001 romantic comedy Someone Like You. Over the following years, she guest-starred on numerous television programs, including Sex and the City, Rescue Me, CSI: Miami, Medium, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Alongside her screen projects, she performed in stage productions, including a 2002 staging of The Winter's Tale and the 2005 Broadway revival of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, which earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play. In 2007, she landed roles portraying twin sisters in the HBO drama series Big Love, serving as a regular cast member during its third and fourth seasons.

In 2010, Enos was cast in her first television lead role in AMC's The Killing, adapted from the Danish series Forbrydelsen. Her portrayal of Detective Sarah Linden across four seasons earned her nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and three Saturn Awards.

Following her breakout on television, Enos expanded into major feature films. In 2013, she played the wife of Brad Pitt's character in World War Z, co-starred as the wife of Josh Brolin's character in Gangster Squad, and appeared in the crime drama Devil's Knot. Her subsequent film work included David Ayer's crime thriller Sabotage, R. J. Cutler's drama If I Stay, Atom Egoyan's The Captive, and Camille Thoman's thriller Never Here.

Enos returned to leading television roles in 2015 as private investigator Alice Vaughan in the Shonda Rhimes-produced ABC legal drama series The Catch, which ran for two seasons. In 2019, she portrayed Marissa Wiegler in the Amazon Prime Video series Hanna. Her film projects during this era included Katie Says Goodbye, Behold My Heart, and the horror feature The Lie, which was released in October 2020 as part of Amazon Prime Video's Welcome to the Blumhouse anthology.

Enos is married to actor Alan Ruck, with whom she shares two children in addition to two stepchildren. She was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, though she no longer practices.
