Matthew Fox

Matthew Chandler Fox is an American actor and former model, best known for his leading roles on prime-time television series. He gained early prominence as Charlie Salinger on the family drama Party of Five and later achieved international recognition for his portrayal of Dr. Jack Shephard on the adventure drama series Lost.

Born in Abington, Pennsylvania, Fox grew up on a ranch in Crowheart, Wyoming. He attended Deerfield Academy for a postgraduate year before matriculating at Columbia University, where he played collegiate football and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics in 1989. After being introduced to modeling by a family acquaintance, he appeared in print advertisements and television commercials before deciding to pursue acting full-time.

Fox made his television acting debut in 1992 on an episode of Wings and was soon cast in the drama series Freshman Dorm. In 1994, he secured his breakout role on Party of Five, playing the eldest sibling forced to raise his younger brothers and sisters. Following the show's six-season run, Fox starred in the supernatural series Haunted before landing the lead role of Jack Shephard on Lost in 2004. His performance on Lost earned him nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of the ensemble cast.

In addition to his television work, Fox has appeared in feature films such as We Are Marshall, Vantage Point, Speed Racer, Alex Cross, Emperor, and Bone Tomahawk. After taking an extended break from acting starting in the mid-2010s, he returned to screen acting with roles in limited television projects including Last Light and Caught.
