Melissa George

Melissa Suzanne George (born 6 August 1976) is an Australian-American actress. She launched her career playing Angel Parrish on the Australian soap opera Home and Away from 1993 to 1996. After moving to the United States, she made her feature film debut in Dark City (1998). She transitioned to leading film roles in The Amityville Horror (2005), Derailed (2005), 30 Days of Night (2007), and Triangle (2009). On television, her major credits include Alias, In Treatment, The Slap, and The Mosquito Coast.

George was born in Perth, Australia, to Pamela, a nurse, and Glenn George, a construction worker. She is the second of four children, with a Scottish immigrant paternal grandmother and a cousin who is an opera singer. She attended Warwick Senior High School and began studying dance at age seven. This led to artistic roller-skating, in which she became a national champion. At age 16, she was named Western Australia's Teenage Model of the Year.

Her acting career began after she recorded a mock episode of Home and Away. Moving to Sydney, she joined the show as runaway Angel Parrish in 1993. Her performance earned five consecutive Logie Award nominations and two wins. While on the show, George made property investments and wrote teen advice columns. She left the soap in 1996, later appearing in the series Roar before moving to the United States in late 1997.

Following her debut in Dark City, George secured film roles in The Limey (1999), Sugar & Spice (2001), and Mulholland Drive (2001). She appeared in television shows such as Thieves, Friends, and Alias, where she played Lauren Reed from 2003 to 2004. In 2005, she starred as Kathy Lutz in the remake of The Amityville Horror. She followed this with roles in thrillers including Turistas (2006), Music Within (2007), WΔZ (2007), and 30 Days of Night (2007).

In 2008, George was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for playing Laura Hill in HBO's In Treatment. She subsequently appeared in Grey's Anatomy, guest-starred in Lie to Me, and starred in A Lonely Place to Die (2010). In 2011, she won the Logie Award for Most Outstanding Actress for playing Rosie in the Australian miniseries The Slap, a role she reprised in the 2015 American adaptation.

George starred as Margot Fox on Apple TV+'s drama series The Mosquito Coast from 2021 to 2023. Her other television projects include the series The First (2018), Hunted (2012), and Ms. X. Beyond acting, George invented Style Snaps, a direct-response device used to alter pant hem lengths without sewing, which she has stated earns her more money than her acting career.

George was married to Claudio Dabed from 2000 until their divorce by 2011. She was later in a relationship with French entrepreneur Jean-David Blanc, with whom she has two sons born in 2014 and 2015, prior to their separation in 2016.
