The trilogy achieved major commercial success, with its soundtracks charting globally. His duet "I Don't Dance" from the second film peaked inside the top 70 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. For his work in the franchise, he earned nominations for an NAACP Image Award, a Young Artist Award, and Teen Choice Awards.

Bleu was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Martha Callari and actor David Reivers. He began modeling at age four with the Ford Modeling Agency, appearing in print advertisements for retailers like Macy's and Gap, as well as on game packaging. At age six, he performed in his first professional theater play, Tiny Tim is Dead. Bleu studied ballet and jazz dance from a young age and later underwent intensive dance instruction at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. He attended the Fiorello H. He landed his first major film role in the teen action movie Catch That Kid (2004). Later that year, he was cast as Nathan McHugh in the Discovery Kids television series Flight 29 Down, which ran for three seasons.

Following his success in High School Musical, Bleu starred as Izzy Daniels in the Disney Channel Original Movie Jump In! (2007), which became a major ratings success for the network. He launched his music career in 2007 with his debut solo album Another Side, featuring the single "Push It to the Limit." The album peaked at number 36 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. He released his second studio album, Speed of Light, in 2009. His additional television work during this period included guest appearances on Hannah Montana and a lead role in the series The Beautiful Life: TBL (2009).

In 2010, Bleu made his Broadway stage debut starring as Usnavi in In the Heights.
