Hayden Christensen

Hayden Christensen is a Canadian actor born on April 19, 1981, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He achieved widespread international fame for portraying Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader within the Star Wars media franchise. He initialed the role in the prequel feature films Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), later returning to play the character in television productions such as the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) and Ahsoka (2023).

Christensen was raised as one of four siblings in a family of Danish, Swedish, and Italian descent. His mother worked as a speechwriter and his father as a computer programmer and executive. While attending Unionville High School in Markham, Ontario, he played competitive hockey and provincial-level tennis. He pursued drama through the Arts York program in high school and later studied at the Actors Studio in New York City. His entry into performance began in childhood after accompanying his sister to an audition, leading to commercial roles.

He made his television acting debut at twelve years old on the series Family Passions in 1993, followed by a small role in the 1994 film In the Mouth of Madness. During the late 1990s, he appeared in project titles such as The Virgin Suicides and secured prominent recognition starring in the 2000 television series Higher Ground. Christensen achieved significant dramatic acclaim for his performance in the 2001 feature Life as a House, receiving nominations for a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award, alongside the National Board of Review's Breakthrough Performance of the Year honor. He subsequently gained praise depicting journalist Stephen Glass in the 2003 film Shattered Glass.

Director George Lucas selected Christensen from approximately 1,500 applicants to portray the adult Anakin Skywalker. His performance in Revenge of the Sith earned him an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain. Alongside his cinematic work during this era, Christensen made his London theatrical debut in 2002 in This Is Our Youth and performed on Broadway in 2005.

Following his early Star Wars roles, Christensen appeared in diverse film projects, including Awake (2007), Jumper (2008), Takers (2010), Outcast (2014), 90 Minutes in Heaven (2015), and Little Italy (2018). Beyond acting, he established the production company Forest Park Pictures with his brother Tove, co-created Glacier Films, and designed a men's clothing line with Canadian retailer RW&CO.

In later years, Christensen returned to the Star Wars universe through voice cameos in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, prior to his live-action reprise in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka. In his personal life, Christensen engaged in a long-term relationship with actress Rachel Bilson, with whom he shares a daughter born in 2014, before their separation in 2017. He also purchased and renovated an agricultural property near Uxbridge, Ontario.
