Guy Pearce

Guy Edward Pearce is an Australian actor born on 5 October 1967 in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. He was raised in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, after his family relocated when he was three years old. His mother was an English schoolteacher and his father was a Royal New Zealand Air Force pilot and RAF test pilot who died in an aircraft accident when Pearce was eight. Pearce attended Geelong College and took part in amateur theatre productions from the age of 11. At the age of 16, he was a competitive amateur bodybuilder and won the title of Junior Mr. Victoria.

Pearce began his television career in 1986 playing Mike Young on the Australian soap opera Neighbours, a role he held for three years before returning for later guest appearances. He also appeared in television series such as Home and Away and Snowy River: The McGregor Saga. His early film roles included Heaven Tonight, Hunting, and Flynn. His major international breakthrough came in 1994 when he starred as a drag queen in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Following his breakout role, Pearce starred in numerous film productions, including L.A. Confidential, Ravenous, Memento, The Time Machine, and The Count of Monte Cristo. He continued to act in Australian films such as The Hard Word and The Proposition. He later portrayed Staff Sergeant Matthew Thompson in The Hurt Locker and played David, Prince of Wales, in The King's Speech. With both films winning the Academy Award for Best Picture, Pearce became the first actor to appear in back-to-back Best Picture winners since Michael Peña.

Pearce expanded his work across television and film in subsequent years. His performance as a wealthy industrialist in The Brutalist (2024) earned him nominations for an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor.

In addition to acting, Pearce has performed in theatre productions, including the Melbourne Theatre Company's Poor Boy in 2009, and pursued music. He recorded songs for the soundtrack of A Slipping-Down Life and released two studio albums, Broken Bones in 2014 and The Nomad in 2018.
