Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu is a French actress known for her extensive work across European cinema and television. Born in Rome, Italy, on April 25, 1963, she is the daughter of French actor Philippe Leroy and model Françoise Laurent. She spent her childhood in Italy, where her father worked in the film industry. At the age of sixteen, she relocated to Paris to pursue drama studies. Despite opposition from her parents, particularly her father who attempted to discourage her from entering acting, she chose to pursue a career in the performing arts.

Her professional career began on stage before transitioning to screen acting. In 1983, she made her film debut in Roger Vadim's comedy-drama Surprise Party. The following year, she appeared as Fauve Mistral in the television miniseries adaptation of Judith Krantz's novel Mistral's Daughter. Her major breakthrough occurred in 1985 when she starred as a distraught mother in Coline Serreau's comedy Three Men and a Cradle (Trois hommes et un couffin). The film earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Film, while Leroy-Beaulieu received a nomination for the César Award for Most Promising Actress.

Following her early success, Leroy-Beaulieu secured roles in numerous costume dramas. In 1988, she starred in Andrzej Wajda's Les Possédés as well as the film Natalia, in which she played the title character and which screened at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival. She also appeared in Philippe Le Guay's Les Deux Fragonard and depicted Charlotte Corday in the 1989 historical film La Révolution française, timed to coincide with celebrations for the bicentenary of the 1789 French Revolution. Over the subsequent years, she appeared in various European feature films, including A Soul Split in Two (1993), Neuf mois (1994), Un eroe borghese (1995), Vatel (2000), and Two Brothers (2004), eventually acting in more than fifty movies.

In addition to feature films, Leroy-Beaulieu has established a prominent presence on television. From 2015 to 2018, she portrayed Catherine Barneville in the comedy series Call My Agent!. Between 2016 and 2019, she played the title character in the crime comedy detective series Agathe Koltès. In 2020, she began starring as Sylvie Grateau in the Netflix comedy-drama series Emily in Paris. She also appeared as Monique Ritz, the widow of Charles Ritz, in a 2022 episode of the Netflix historical drama series The Crown.

Outside of acting, Leroy-Beaulieu engaged in political discussion during the 2002 French presidential election by publicly backing Green Party candidate Noël Mamère through an opinion piece published in the newspaper La Croix. In April 2025, she was named a brand ambassador in France for L'Oréal Paris’ Age Perfect Collagen Expert skincare line as part of a campaign focused on ageless beauty. In her personal life, she has a daughter named Taïs with her partner, director Richard Bean.
