François Civil

François Civil is a French actor who has appeared in both French and English-language film and television productions. He is known for his roles in feature films such as Frank, As Above, So Below, Five, Burn Out, Love at Second Sight, The Wolf's Call, BAC Nord, and as D'Artagnan in The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan and The Three Musketeers: Milady. His television credits include Trop la Classe!, Call My Agent!, and Fiasco.

Civil was born in Paris on January 29, 1990. His mother is from Avignon and his father is Tahitian; both worked as university professors of Spanish. Raised with an older sister, he grew up speaking French, English, Spanish, and some Italian. As a child, he was hyperactive and turned to music, sports, and theater to channel his energy. He began acting at age fourteen after enrolling in a drama class, and later briefly attended the drama school Cours Florent.

Civil made his feature film debut in the 2005 comedy Le Cactus, followed by television appearances and a main role in the teen sitcom Trop la Classe!. He earned recognition for his lead role in the 2008 drama Dying or Feeling Better, receiving a Lumiere Award nomination. Over the following years, he worked across theater, television, and film, including roles in Bus Palladium, 15 Lads, and Elles. In 2014, he expanded into English-language projects, playing a bassist in Frank, an urban explorer in As Above, So Below, and appearing in the miniseries Rosemary's Baby.

In 2015, Civil joined the cast of the popular comedy series Call My Agent!. He achieved a wider public breakthrough in 2016 co-starring in the comedy Five. He subsequently starred in the action film Burn Out and the drama Back to Burgundy. The year 2019 marked a major period in his career with leading roles in the geopolitical thriller The Wolf's Call, the psychological thriller Who You Think I Am, and the romantic comedies Love at Second Sight and Someone, Somewhere.

In 2021, Civil starred in the crime drama BAC Nord, and in 2022 he appeared in Rise and voiced Buzz Lightyear in the French dub of Lightyear. He achieved further commercial success portraying D'Artagnan in the 2023 two-part film adaptation of The Three Musketeers. That same year, he starred in the romantic thriller A Place to Fight For. His later projects include roles in The Good Teacher, Beating Hearts, Fiasco, Two Pianos, and the miniseries A Tale of Two Cities.

Throughout his career, Civil has received several accolades, including the Chopard Trophy at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, two Cesar Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor, and GQ France's Actor of the Year award in 2023. Beyond acting, he is an amateur photographer, plays several musical instruments, and was a member of the electro-folk and rock band Collective Kingdom from 2009 to 2018.
