Carla Juri

Carla Juri is a Swiss actress known for her performances in film projects such as 180°, Wetlands, Finsterworld, and Blade Runner 2049. Born on 2 January 1985, she is fluent in German, Italian, and English, having learned German and Italian at a young age and English at the age of 15.

Juri grew up in Ambrì, a village situated in the Italian-speaking Canton of Ticino in Switzerland. She was raised by a lawyer father and a sculptor mother. During her school years, she played ice hockey for HC Ambrì-Piotta and served as a forward for the Swiss Schweizer Meister Class A team, SC Reinach.

Her formal training in acting began in 2005. Between 2005 and 2010, Juri studied theatre in Los Angeles and London. She was coached by Douglas Matranga in Los Angeles from 2005 to 2007 and participated in the ensemble of the Theatrical Arts Theatre Company in Los Angeles from 2007 to 2008. She subsequently attended acting classes at The Actors Centre in London from 2008 to 2010.

At the start of her professional acting career, Juri traveled to attend auditions across Berlin, London, and Rome, utilizing her trilingual abilities to secure work. Her debut film appearance occurred in the short film Midday Room.

Juri gained recognition for her work in Swiss and international cinema. In 2013, she played the leading role of Helen in the film adaptation of Wetlands, a role that became one of her most prominent. To prepare for the character, who lives in Berlin, Juri spent several weeks wearing Helen's clothes, spent extensive time in Berlin, and attended a local high school undercover with only the principal aware of her identity. She later appeared in the sci-fi feature Blade Runner 2049, portraying a designer of implanted memories for replicants. Outside of feature films, her work includes appearing in the 2014 music video for Sharon Van Etten's song "Your Love Is Killing Me".

Throughout her career, Juri has earned multiple accolades. In 2011, she received the Swiss Film Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role for her appearance in 180° (2010). The following year, she won the Swiss Film Award for Best Actress for her role in Someone Like Me. In 2013, she was chosen as one of the recipients of the Shooting Stars Award, an honor presented annually to ten young European actors at the Berlin International Film Festival.
