Jodie Turner-Smith

Jodie Turner-Smith is a British actress who has appeared in a variety of film and television productions. She made her feature film debut in the 2016 thriller The Neon Demon and gained wider attention through her performances in both movies and television series. She is recognized for her roles in films such as Queen & Slim, After Yang, and White Noise, as well as television series including The Last Ship, Nightflyers, and Anne Boleyn.

Turner-Smith was born on 7 September 1986 in Peterborough, England, to Jamaican parents. She was the only one of her siblings born outside of Jamaica. She resided in Peterborough until the age of 10. Following her parents' divorce, she moved to the United States with her mother, brother, and half-sister, settling in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She later attended the University of Pittsburgh, where she studied finance and graduated in 2008, subsequently working at a bank.

In 2009, Turner-Smith met musician Pharrell Williams following a N.E.R.D. concert. Although she initially intended to pursue writing, he convinced her to pursue modeling and relocate to Los Angeles, where she has lived since 2009. She made her screen acting debut in 2013 as a siren in the television series True Blood. Between 2013 and 2017, she took on various minor roles in films and music videos, credited during this period as Jodie Smith. In 2016, she appeared in the music video for Zayn Malik's song "Pillowtalk."

Turner-Smith first came to prominence playing Sergeant Azima Kandie in the 2017–2018 season of the TNT series The Last Ship. She followed this with a major role as Melantha Jhirl in the 2018 Syfy and Netflix series Nightflyers. In June 2019, she played Josie in the Cinemax series Jett, and later that year she starred opposite Daniel Kaluuya in the feature film Queen & Slim.

In October 2020, Turner-Smith was cast in the title role of Queen Anne Boleyn for a three-part drama on Channel 5 detailing the final months of Boleyn's life. Her casting faced public backlash due to her being a Black person, but her performance received praise upon the show's release in May 2021. In January 2021, she was cast as Éile in the prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin, though she departed the project in April 2021 due to scheduling conflicts.

Turner-Smith starred alongside Colin Farrell in the 2022 sci-fi drama After Yang and appeared in the 2022 film White Noise. In September 2022, she joined the Star Wars Disney+ series The Acolyte. Her later television credits include the 2024 Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey. She was also cast alongside Jared Leto in the film Tron: Ares.

In her personal life, Turner-Smith began a relationship with actor Joshua Jackson in October 2018. They married in late 2019 and had a daughter in April 2020. Turner-Smith filed for divorce in October 2023, and it was reported in May 2025 that the couple had reached a divorce settlement.
