Rosario Dawson

Rosario Isabel Dawson is an American actress and activist. Born on May 9, 1979, she is best known for her roles across independent films, blockbusters, television series, and animated projects. She made her feature-film debut in the 1995 independent drama Kids and went on to appear in prominent films such as He Got Game, Men in Black II, Rent, Sin City, Clerks II, Seven Pounds, and Top Five. She is also widely recognized for portraying Claire Temple in several Marvel Cinematic Universe television series and the live-action character Ahsoka Tano in the Star Wars franchise.

Dawson was born in New York City to Isabel Celeste, who is of Puerto Rican, Cuban, and African ancestry. Her mother was 17 years old when Dawson was born and never married her biological father, Patrick C. Harris. When Dawson was a year old, her mother married Greg Dawson, a construction worker. The family moved into a reclaimed building on East 13th Street after approval as members of an affordable housing plan, and later relocated to Garland, Texas.

As a child, Dawson made a brief appearance on Sesame Street. At age 15, she was discovered on her front-porch step by photographer Larry Clark and Harmony Korine, who cast her in the 1995 film Kids. Following her debut, Dawson expanded her work into music projects, providing a voice-over for Prince's single "1999", appearing in The Chemical Brothers' "Out of Control" music video, and contributing spoken parts to OutKast's album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. In 2001, she played Valerie Brown in Josie and the Pussycats and appeared in Chelsea Walls.

Dawson's film career gained momentum with roles in Spike Lee's 25th Hour and the 2002 blockbuster Men in Black II, which served as a major turning point. She subsequently appeared in The Rundown, Alexander, and made her stage debut in Two Gentlemen of Verona in 2005. That same year, she starred as Mimi Marquez in the film adaptation of Rent, winning a Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress, and played Gail in Sin City. Over the remainder of the decade, she appeared in Clerks II, Death Proof, Seven Pounds, and Eagle Eye, while also producing and starring in Descent.

Throughout the 2010s and 2020s, Dawson maintained a prolific screen and voice acting schedule. Her notable film roles included Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Unstoppable, Gimme Shelter, Trance, Top Five, Zombieland: Double Tap, Clerks III, and Haunted Mansion. On television, she portrayed Claire Temple across five Marvel Cinematic Universe series from 2015 to 2018, held roles in Young Rock and Dopesick, and assumed the live-action role of Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. Dawson has also lent her voice to projects for DC Comics, Disney/Marvel, and Nickelodeon, including voicing Wonder Woman and Batgirl.

In addition to her acting work, Dawson is an active advocate and philanthropist. She has been involved with political causes, including endorsements for Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, and Cory Booker, and has been arrested twice during political protests. She supports numerous charitable organizations, including the Lower East Side Girls Club, Voto Latino, Amnesty International, and V-Day. In her personal life, Dawson adopted her daughter, Isabella, in 2014, and was in a relationship with United States Senator Cory Booker from 2018 to 2022.
