Sarah Silverman

Sarah Kate Silverman is an American stand-up comedian, actress, and writer born on December 1, 1970. She first gained prominence as a writer and cast member on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live during its 1993–1994 season. She later produced and starred in Comedy Central's The Sarah Silverman Program from 2007 to 2010, receiving a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance.

Silverman was born in Concord, New Hampshire, to Beth Ann and Donald Silverman, and grew up in Manchester and Bedford, New Hampshire. Her mother founded the theater company New Thalian Players and worked as a campaign photographer, while her father trained as a social worker and ran a retail outlet. The youngest of five children, Silverman is of Ashkenazi Jewish descent. She gave her first stand-up performance in Boston at age 17 and attended New York University for one year after graduating from The Derryfield School in 1989.

Silverman launched her professional stand-up career in 1992. Following her tenure on Saturday Night Live, she appeared on television shows such as The Larry Sanders Show, Mr. Show, Seinfeld, Star Trek: Voyager, V.I.P., Greg the Bunny, and Crank Yankers. She starred in the 1997 independent film Who's the Caboose? and its series sequel Pilot Season. In 1997, she made her network stand-up debut on the Late Show with David Letterman, and in 2005, she released the concert film Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic.

In 2008, Silverman won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics and a Creative Arts Emmy Award for writing the song "I'm Fucking Matt Damon." She published her memoir, The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee, in 2010. Her film work includes School of Rock, Take This Waltz, A Million Ways to Die in the West, Battle of the Sexes, and I Smile Back, which earned her a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. She also voiced Vanellope von Schweetz in Disney's Wreck-It Ralph and Ralph Breaks the Internet.

Silverman's comedic material frequently explores social taboos, politics, and religion. She campaigned for Bernie Sanders during the 2016 election and spoke at the Democratic National Convention in support of Hillary Clinton. She hosted the talk show I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman from 2017 to 2018 and launched The Sarah Silverman Podcast in 2020. In 2022, she co-wrote the book and lyrics for an off-Broadway musical adaptation of The Bedwetter.

In 2023, her stand-up comedy special Someone You Love premiered on Max, winning a Writers Guild of America Award and receiving a Golden Globe nomination. In February 2024, she began hosting the comedy variety television series Stupid Pet Tricks on TBS.
