Justin Long

Justin Jacob Long, born June 2, 1978, is an American actor, comedian, writer, and producer. Recognized particularly for his film roles in comedy and horror cinema, Long has come to be recognized as a scream king for his work in the horror genre. Across his career, he has appeared in feature films such as Galaxy Quest (1999), Jeepers Creepers (2001), Dodgeball (2004), Accepted (2006), Idiocracy (2006), Live Free or Die Hard (2007), Drag Me to Hell (2009), He's Just Not That Into You (2009), Tusk (2014), and Barbarian (2022). He is also known for voicing Alvin Seville in the live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks film series.

Long was raised in Fairfield, Connecticut, as the second of three boys in a conservative Catholic family. His father, R. James Long, was a philosophy and Latin professor at Fairfield University, and his mother, Wendy Lesniak, was a former stage actress. Long attended Fairfield College Preparatory School and Vassar College, where he performed with the sketch comedy group Laughingstock and acted in plays such as Butterflies Are Free. His older brother, Damian, became a local stage actor and high school teacher, while his younger brother, Christian, pursued a career as an actor and director.

Long began establishing his acting career in screen roles during the late 1990s and early 2000s. From 2000 to 2004, he starred as Warren Cheswick in the NBC comedy-drama series Ed. He was offered the opportunity to replace Steve Burns on Blue's Clues, which he declined. His film projects quickly expanded to include Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005), Dreamland (2006), The Break-Up (2006), and Waiting... (2005). He also appeared in the 2006 documentary Wild West Comedy Show.

Between 2006 and 2009, Long achieved widespread public exposure starring alongside John Hodgman in Apple's "Get a Mac" television advertising campaign, depicting a personified Mac computer. He later appeared as himself in Intel's "Go PC" campaign. During this period, Long played a white-hat hacker in Live Free or Die Hard (2007), portrayed Brandon St. Randy in Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008), and starred in Going the Distance (2010), After.Life (2009), and The Conspirator (2010). His voice roles included Humphrey in Alpha and Omega (2010) and Alvin in multiple Alvin and the Chipmunks sequels.

Beyond feature films, Long recorded audiobooks for Stephen King's Everything's Eventual and Judy Blume's Then Again, Maybe I Won't. He co-hosted WWE Raw in 2010 and acted in a stage production of Samuel J. and K. at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Long co-produced and starred in the 2014 drama Comet, starred in Kevin Smith's body horror-comedy Tusk (2014), and launched his podcast Life Is Short with Justin Long in 2019. In 2024, he co-wrote and directed a segment for V/H/S/Beyond.

On television, Long voiced Kevin Murphy in Netflix's F Is for Family (2015–2021) and appeared in Celebrity Watch Party. In 2023, he played Nathan Bratt in the Disney+ series Goosebumps, receiving a nomination for the Children's and Family Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Performer. His recent screen credits include The Wave (2019) and Weapons (2025).

Politically, Long is a Democrat who supported Barack Obama in 2012 and served as a campaign surrogate for Bernie Sanders in 2016 and 2020. Long married actress Kate Bosworth, and the couple welcomed their first child in July 2025.
