Jennifer Connelly

Jennifer Lynn Connelly is an American actress who began her career as a child model before transitioning into acting. She made her feature film debut in the 1984 crime drama Once Upon a Time in America and gained further public recognition starring in the fantasy film Labyrinth (1986). Connelly achieved widespread critical acclaim for her role in Darren Aronofsky's drama Requiem for a Dream (2000) and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Alicia Nash in the 2001 biographical film A Beautiful Mind.

Connelly was born on December 12, 1970, in Round Top, Cairo, New York. She is the daughter of Ilene Carol, an antique dealer, and Gerard Connelly, a clothing manufacturer. Raised primarily in Brooklyn Heights, New York City, with a period spent in Woodstock, New York, she attended Saint Ann's School. After graduating high school in 1988, she studied English literature at Yale University for two years before transferring to Stanford University to study drama, where she trained under Roy London, Howard Fine, and Harold Guskin. Encouraged by her parents, she left college to resume her acting career full-time.

Her career began at age ten when her parents submitted her photograph to the Ford Modeling Agency, leading to print and television advertisements, print covers for Seventeen magazine, and two pop songs recorded for the Japanese market. She moved into acting after being cast as the young Deborah Gelly in Once Upon a Time in America. She subsequently starred in Dario Argento's horror film Phenomena (1985) and Seven Minutes in Heaven (1985).

Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, Connelly appeared in a diverse range of film genres. Her credits during this period include the Italian film Etoile (1989), Some Girls (1989), The Hot Spot (1990), Career Opportunities (1991), and the period superhero film The Rocketeer (1991). She also appeared in the drama Of Love and Shadows (1994), Higher Learning (1995), the independent film Far Harbor (1996), the neo-noir thriller Mulholland Falls (1996), the drama Inventing the Abbotts (1997), and the science fiction film Dark City (1998).

In the early 2000s, Connelly expanded her portfolio with high-profile roles, appearing in Ed Harris's biopic Pollock (2000), Waking the Dead (2000), and the television drama series The Street (2000). She earned extensive acclaim as Marion Silver in Requiem for a Dream (2000) and gained major worldwide recognition opposite Russell Crowe in Ron Howard's A Beautiful Mind (2001).

Following her Oscar win, Connelly starred in high-profile productions such as Hulk (2003), House of Sand and Fog (2003), Dark Water (2005), Little Children (2006), Blood Diamond (2006), The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008), and He's Just Not That Into You (2009). In subsequent decades, her major film credits include Aronofsky's biblical epic Noah (2014), Alita: Battle Angel (2019), and Top Gun: Maverick (2022). On television, she led the science fiction series Snowpiercer (2020–2024) and Dark Matter (2024).

Outside of acting, Connelly was appointed Amnesty International Ambassador for Human Rights Education in 2005. She has served as the face of promotional campaigns for fashion brands Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton, as well as Revlon cosmetics, and in 2012 became the first global face of the Shiseido Company. She has also been featured on various publications' lists of the world's most beautiful women.
