Glen Powell

Glen Thomas Powell Jr. is an American actor, screenwriter, and producer. Born on October 21, 1988, he rose to prominence through his roles in major feature films including Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone but You, Hit Man, and Twisters. He is also known for his television work on series such as Scream Queens and Chad Powers.

Powell was raised in Austin, Texas, by his parents, Glen Powell Sr. and Cyndy Powell. He attended Canyon Vista Middle School and Westwood High School, where he played football and lacrosse. He later enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin in the Moody College of Communication to study Radio-Television-Film. During his studies, he participated in the university's Semester in Los Angeles program. Powell paused his education to move to Los Angeles, though he later re-enrolled via Zoom classes with an expected graduation in May 2027.

Powell began his career with small roles in films such as Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003), The Wendell Baker Story (2005), and The Great Debaters (2007). Following an introduction to an agent by director Denzel Washington, he relocated to Los Angeles. He appeared in episodic television series such as CSI: Miami, NCIS, and Rizzoli & Isles, as well as minor film roles in The Dark Knight Rises and Stuck in Love. Powell landed larger roles starting in 2014 with The Expendables 3, followed by Sex Ed, Ride Along 2, and a main role in the television series Scream Queens.

In 2016, Powell co-starred in Richard Linklater's comedy Everybody Wants Some!! and portrayed astronaut John Glenn in the drama Hidden Figures, receiving an Actor Award as part of its cast. He subsequently appeared in Sand Castle, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and the Netflix romantic comedy Set It Up (2018). His breakout mainstream role came in 2022 as Jake "Hangman" Seresin in Top Gun: Maverick. That same year, he voiced a role in Apollo 10 1⁄2: A Space Age Childhood and executive produced and starred as Tom Hudner in the naval drama Devotion.

Powell achieved further commercial success in the romantic comedy Anyone but You (2023). He co-wrote, produced, and starred in the dark comedy Hit Man (2023), receiving a Golden Globe nomination. He went on to star in the disaster film Twisters (2024) and co-created, produced, and starred in the comedy series Chad Powers (2025–present), earning a second consecutive Golden Globe nomination. His recent projects include starring roles in the action film The Running Man (2025), the thriller How to Make a Killing (2026), and voicing Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Outside of acting, Powell launched his production company, Barnstorm, in January 2025 with a first-look deal at Universal Pictures. He is a licensed pilot and a fan of the Texas Longhorns. In 2024, he relocated from Los Angeles back to Austin, Texas.
