Marion Cotillard

Marion Cotillard is a French actress known for her performances in both European and American feature films. Born on September 30, 1975, she has received numerous international accolades, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and two César Awards. She was appointed a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in France in 2010, later being promoted to Officer in 2016, the same year she was named a Knight of the Legion of Honour.

Cotillard was born in Paris and raised in an artistic family, living in Alfortville, Aulnay-la-Rivière, and La Beauce. Her mother worked as an actress and drama teacher, while her father was an actor, director, and mime who introduced her to cinema and theatre. Cotillard began acting as a child, appearing on stage alongside her family. At age 15, she enrolled at the Conservatoire d'art dramatique in Orléans, graduating in 1994 before moving to Paris to pursue a professional acting career. She is fluent in both French and English.

Her international breakthrough arrived with her performance as singer Édith Piaf in La Vie en Rose (2007), which earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress, making her the first performer to win an Oscar for a French-language role.

Following her Oscar victory, Cotillard starred in prominent English-language projects, including Public Enemies, Nine, Inception, Contagion, Midnight in Paris, and The Dark Knight Rises. She also maintained her presence in European cinema, starring in French-language dramas such as Rust and Bone, Two Days, One Night, and Little Girl Blue. Aside from screen roles, she has portrayed Joan of Arc in multiple international stage productions of Joan of Arc at the Stake.

She was the face of the Lady Dior handbag from 2008 to 2017 and represented Chanel No. 5 from 2020 to 2024.
