Sky Ferreira

Sky Tonia Ferreira is an American singer-songwriter, model, and actress born on July 8, 1992, in Venice, Los Angeles. She initially gained attention as a teenager by uploading self-written songs to Myspace, which led to her discovery by producers Bloodshy & Avant and a recording contract with Parlophone in 2009. Known for her musical style spanning synth-pop, dance-pop, electropop, and indie rock, she has also established a career in modeling and film acting.

Ferreira was raised largely by her grandmother, who served as Michael Jackson's personal hairstylist for over 30 years. Encouraged by Jackson, her grandmother enrolled her in opera lessons as a child. Ferreira experienced trauma in her adolescence and left high school after her sophomore year. Before turning 15, she wrote to Bloodshy & Avant to request a recording contract, leading to her deal with Parlophone and her entry into modeling and film by 2010.

She released her debut extended play, As If!, in March 2011, incorporating electropop and dance music elements. Ferreira subsequently released her second EP, Ghost, in October 2012, featuring collaborations with producers and musicians including Jon Brion and Shirley Manson. The EP included "Everything Is Embarrassing," a track composed with Dev Hynes that received critical acclaim and led to her debut television performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in January 2013.

In October 2013, Capitol Records released Ferreira's debut studio album, Night Time, My Time, following delays and label disputes. Marking a departure toward experimental indie rock and synth-pop, the album gained critical praise and debuted at number 45 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The record was preceded by the lead single "You're Not the One." During this period, she expanded her acting work in Eli Roth's film The Green Inferno and served as an opening act for Miley Cyrus and Vampire Weekend.

Beyond her music career, Ferreira has worked extensively as a fashion model and brand ambassador. She has appeared in advertising campaigns for Calvin Klein and Adidas, served as a spokesperson for Redken, and became the face of Jimmy Choo's Illicit fragrance. Her film acting roles include appearances in Putty Hill, Elvis & Nixon, The Trust, Lords of Chaos, and Baby Driver. She has also collaborated with musical acts including Ariel Pink, Charli XCX, and Primal Scream.

Ferreira later announced her second studio album, Masochism, releasing the singles "Downhill Lullaby" in 2019 and "Don't Forget" in 2022. Following ongoing delays, fans created the Free Sky Ferreira movement to protest her record label, Capitol Records. Ferreira confirmed in December 2024 that she had been dropped by Capitol. That same month, she released the song "Leash" for the film Babygirl and stated that Masochism will be released in 2025.
