Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone is an American actress born on October 4, 1976. She made her film debut in the thriller The Crush (1993) and gained widespread prominence after appearing in music videos for the band Aerosmith. She achieved major public recognition starring as Cher Horowitz in the comedy film Clueless (1995), which led to a multi-million-dollar deal with Columbia Pictures. Silverstone later portrayed Batgirl in Batman & Robin (1997) and earned a Golden Globe Award nomination for her leading role in the television series Miss Match (2003).

Silverstone was born in San Francisco, California, to Deirdre Silverstone, a Scottish former Pan Am flight attendant, and Monty Silverstone, an English real estate agent. She grew up in Hillsborough, California, alongside an older half-sister and an older brother. Raised in Conservative Judaism, she had a bat mitzvah ceremony. She began modeling at age eight, appeared in television commercials, and attended Crocker Middle School and San Mateo High School.

Her acting career began in 1992 with an appearance on the television show The Wonder Years. After her film debut in The Crush earned her two MTV Movie Awards, she was cast in Aerosmith's music video for "Cryin'", followed by "Amazing" and "Crazy". These appearances led director Amy Heckerling to cast her in Clueless (1995). The film's success resulted in Silverstone signing a deal with Columbia-TriStar that included a first-look contract for her production company, First Kiss Productions. Her additional 1990s films included Hideaway, The Babysitter, Le Nouveau monde, True Crime, Excess Baggage, Batman & Robin, and Blast from the Past.

Throughout the 2000s, Silverstone focused on smaller-scale feature films, stage plays, and television projects. She starred in Love's Labour's Lost (2000), executive produced and voiced the lead character in the animated series Braceface (2001–2003), and appeared in feature films including Global Heresy, Scorched, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, Beauty Shop, and Stormbreaker. On stage, she made her Broadway debut in The Graduate (2002–2003) and performed in productions of Boston Marriage, Speed-the-Plow, and Time Stands Still. She also headlined the 2003 NBC series Miss Match.

In the 2010s, Silverstone reprised her role in Time Stands Still on Broadway in 2010 and acted in the 2012 Broadway production of The Performers. Her film projects during this decade included The Art of Getting By, Butter, Vamps, Ass Backwards, Angels in Stardust, Who Gets the Dog?, King Cobra, and Catfight, alongside television roles in Suburgatory and Childrens Hospital. Outside of acting, Silverstone is a vegan who has endorsed PETA activities and authored two cookbooks: the New York Times bestseller The Kind Diet (2009) and The Kind Mama (2014).
