Isla Fisher

Isla Lang Fisher is an Australian actress born on February 3, 1976, in Muscat, Oman, to Scottish parents. Her family briefly returned to their hometown of Bathgate, Scotland, before immigrating to Australia when she was six years old and settling in Perth, Western Australia. Fisher attended Swanbourne Primary School and Methodist Ladies' College, participating in school productions such as Little Shop of Horrors. At age 21, she studied clowning, mime, musical theatre, and commedia dell'arte at L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris.

Fisher began her career appearing in television commercials in Australia at age nine. She made her professional acting debut in 1993 with guest roles in the children's series Bay City and Paradise Beach. From 1994 to 1997, she portrayed Shannon Reed on the Australian soap opera Home and Away, earning nominations for Most Popular New Talent at the 1995 Logie Awards and Most Popular Actress at the 1997 ceremony. During this period, she also published two teen novels, Bewitched and Seduced by Fame.

After working in European theatre and appearing in the German slasher film Swimming Pool, Fisher transitioned to Hollywood with a supporting role in the live-action comedy Scooby-Doo in 2002. She subsequently took on supporting parts in films such as Dallas 362, The Wannabes, and I Heart Huckabees. Her breakthrough came in 2005 when she starred in the comedy Wedding Crashers, a performance that earned her the Best Breakthrough Performance Award at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards.

Following her breakthrough, Fisher appeared in various feature films, including London, Wedding Daze, The Lookout, Hot Rod, and Definitely, Maybe, as well as voicing a character in the animated comedy Horton Hears a Who!. In 2009, she landed her first leading film role in the comedy Confessions of a Shopaholic. She went on to star in the black comedy Burke and Hare, voice a character in the animated Western Rango, and feature in the comedy Bachelorette and the animated film Rise of the Guardians.

In 2013, Fisher appeared in two major studio releases: Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby, playing an ambitious social climber, and the heist thriller Now You See Me, portraying an escapist magician. Her work in The Great Gatsby earned her supporting actress nominations from the AACTA Awards, the Australian Film Critics Association, and the Film Critics Circle of Australia. That same year, she appeared in Life of Crime and joined the television sitcom Arrested Development in a recurring role for its fourth and fifth seasons.

Fisher's later film credits include Nocturnal Animals, Keeping Up with the Joneses, Tag, and The Beach Bum, alongside voice roles in the animated movies Back to the Outback and Dog Man. Since 2022, she has starred in the comedy drama series Wolf Like Me. In addition to her acting work, she authored the Marge in Charge book series. Fisher was married to English comedian Sacha Baron Cohen from 2010 to 2025, and they have three children.
