Cheryl Hines

Cheryl Ruth Hines is an American actress, comedian, and director best known for her role as Cheryl David on the HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm. Born on September 21, 1965, in Miami Beach, Florida, to James and Rosemary Hines, she spent much of her childhood in Tallahassee, where she participated in the Young Actors Theatre. Raised Roman Catholic, she experienced financial hardships growing up. She attended Lively Technical Center and Tallahassee State College before graduating with a degree in radio and television production from the University of Central Florida in 1990.

Hines launched her comedic career performing improv at The Groundlings Theater alongside fellow students such as Lisa Kudrow. Early in her career, she made guest appearances on television shows like Swamp Thing and Unsolved Mysteries, and appeared as a contestant on an episode of The Dating Game in 1996.

Her breakthrough came when she was cast as Cheryl David in Curb Your Enthusiasm, a role she played from 2000 to 2024. Her performance earned her two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, in 2003 and 2006. On January 29, 2014, she was honored with the 2,516th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Hines expanded her career into feature films and television series, starring in movies such as RV, Waitress, and the mockumentary The Grand. She made her feature directorial debut with the 2009 film Serious Moonlight. On television, she starred as Jane in the ABC sitcom In the Motherhood, guest-starred on Brothers & Sisters, played a human disguise of Wanda in the Nickelodeon film A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!, and served as an executive producer for the 2010 reality series School Pride. She later starred as Dallas Royce on the ABC sitcom Suburgatory from 2011 to 2014, appeared in the web series We Need Help, and joined the singing game show I Can See Your Voice as a panelist.

In her personal life, Hines married Paul Young in December 2002, and they had a daughter, Catherine Rose Young, in 2004 before filing for divorce in July 2010. Hines began dating Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in December 2011 after being introduced by Larry David. They married on August 2, 2014. She supported his 2024 presidential campaign and attended his Senate confirmation hearing as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. Hines is also active in advocacy work, serving on the board of trustees for United Cerebral Palsy.
