Gabriel Basso

Louis Gabriel Basso III is an American actor who first gained recognition as a child performer before establishing himself in major television and feature film projects. He is widely recognized for his portrayal of Adam Jamison on the television series The Big C, as well as his starring role as FBI Agent Peter Sutherland in the action thriller series The Night Agent. Over the course of his career, he has performed across a variety of independent films, major studio releases, and streaming productions.

Basso was born on December 11, 1994, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Marcie and Louis J. Basso. Raised alongside his two sisters, Alexandria and Annalise, who both became actresses, he completed his education through homeschooling. During his youth, his family belonged to Grace Doctrine Church in St. Charles, Missouri. Before turning his attention toward acting, Basso initially aimed to become a professional football player.

His on-screen career commenced in early 2007 while living in St. Louis, where he landed minor parts in feature films such as Meet Bill and Alice Upside Down, the latter of which also featured his older sister. Shortly afterward, Basso relocated to Los Angeles with his mother and sisters. Within his first week in the city, he secured talent representation and was cast as the lead in Ghost Town, a web series for Dailymotion Kids. This momentum led to television guest appearances on shows such as iCarly and The Middle.

Basso's major television breakthrough arrived in 2010 when he was cast in the Showtime comedy-drama series The Big C. From 2010 to 2013, he portrayed Adam Jamison, the son of the central character played by Laura Linney. Alongside his regular television work, he starred as Hal Mitchell in the 2009 film Alabama Moon. He subsequently secured key roles in notable feature films, including J. J. Abrams' science fiction film Super 8 in 2011 and Jordan Vogt-Roberts' comedy-drama The Kings of Summer, which debuted at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

Throughout the mid-2010s, Basso continued to add diverse feature films to his resume. He appeared in the 2015 action comedy Barely Lethal, joined the cast of Meg Ryan's directorial debut Ithaca, and performed in the 2016 courtroom drama The Whole Truth. Another prominent film project followed in 2020, when he played the lead role of JD Vance in the Netflix film adaptation of Hillbilly Elegy.

In the early 2020s, Basso took on lead roles in major thriller productions. He was cast in the action film Trigger Warning and secured the lead role in Shawn Ryan's political conspiracy series The Night Agent, based on the bestselling novel by Matthew Quirk. His additional projects included joining the cast of Renny Harlin's The Strangers Trilogy and appearing in the 2025 release A House of Dynamite. Basso also began expanding his work behind the camera, starting production on his directorial debut film, Iconoclast, for Netflix in November 2025.
