Kari Matchett

Kari Matchett is a Canadian actress known for her extensive work across television and film. Born in Spalding, Saskatchewan, she completed her high school education at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute in Alberta. She went on to study drama in the theatre program at Red Deer Polytechnic, gaining her earliest professional acting experience through its summer stock theatrical productions. She furthered her training at the National Theatre School in Montreal and the Moscow Theatre School, later performing for three years at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario.

Matchett's screen career began gaining momentum in Canada with a major role in the television series The Rez, followed by her first lead character as Colleen Blessed in Power Play. She subsequently joined the ensemble cast of A Nero Wolfe Mystery alongside Timothy Hutton, performing multiple parts including the recurring character Lily Rowan. Her early feature film credits during this period include appearances in Apartment Hunting, Angel Eyes, Men with Brooms, Cypher, and the sci-fi horror thriller Cube 2: Hypercube as Kate Filmore.

Her television profile continued to expand through a variety of drama series and guest appearances. She earned a Gemini Award for playing a murder suspect in a 2001 episode of Blue Murder, later returning to the series as Detective Elaine Bender in 2004. Matchett also reteamed with Hutton for the miniseries Five Days to Midnight and joined the main cast of the sci-fi series Invasion. Her other screen projects during the mid-2000s included Plague City: SARS in Toronto, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Shark, Wild Card, Intimate Stranger, and the feature thriller Civic Duty.

In the late 2000s, Matchett secured prominent recurring and main roles on several high-profile American network and cable programs. She portrayed Lisa Miller on 24, Kate Armstrong on Heartland, and ER chief Skye Wexler on ER. She played Jules, the daughter of Dennis Hopper's character, on the drama series Crash, and reteamed with Hutton once more on Leverage to portray his character's former wife, Maggie Collins. From 2010 to 2014, she starred as Joan Campbell on the series Covert Affairs.

Matchett's later film work features a supporting appearance in Terrence Malick's drama The Tree of Life, which was filmed in 2008, debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, and received the Palme d'Or. She also co-starred as Sandra in the 2016 biographical drama Maudie alongside Ethan Hawke. In 2023, she joined the cast of the Netflix political drama series The Night Agent in the recurring role of United States President Michelle Travers.
