Frankie Muniz

Francisco James Muniz IV is an American actor and professional stock car racing driver born on December 5, 1985. He rose to international prominence during the early 2000s as the star of the Fox comedy series Malcolm in the Middle. His performance as the title character earned him an Emmy Award nomination and two Golden Globe nominations. At the peak of his early television fame, he was widely regarded as one of the most successful and bankable young performers in the entertainment industry.

Muniz was born in Wood-Ridge, New Jersey, to a nurse and a restaurateur. He spent much of his early childhood in Knightdale, North Carolina, where he was raised until his performing talents were discovered at an eight-year-old talent show in Raleigh. After portraying Tiny Tim in a local stage production of A Christmas Carol, his parents separated, leading him to relocate to Burbank, California, with his mother. From the sixth grade onward, his mother oversaw his education through homeschooling.

His professional acting career began with television commercials and roles in made-for-television films in 1997, including To Dance with Olivia and What the Deaf Man Heard. After a brief appearance in the 1999 feature film Lost & Found, Muniz secured his breakthrough lead role in Malcolm in the Middle, which premiered to massive television audiences in January 2000. During the show's run, he received The Hollywood Reporter Young Star Award and made guest appearances on several popular television shows, including Lizzie McGuire and MADtv. He also lent his voice to animated projects such as The Fairly OddParents and Dr. Dolittle 2.

In feature films, Muniz starred in the 2000 drama My Dog Skip and achieved a major box office success alongside Amanda Bynes in the 2002 comedy Big Fat Liar. He landed the lead role in the 2003 action film Agent Cody Banks, doing his own stunt work, and reprised the part in its 2004 sequel. He went on to voice the lead character in the 2005 family movie Racing Stripes and held roles in projects such as Deuces Wild, Extreme Movie, and Pizza Man. Later screen credits included guest spots on Criminal Minds, Arrested Development, The Rookie, and a reprise of his defining role as Malcolm for a Disney+ revival.

Driven by a lifelong passion for motorsports, Muniz transitioned into professional racing. After initial success in celebrity events, he entered open-wheel competitions such as Formula BMW USA and the Champ Car Atlantic Series, winning the Jovy Marcelo Award for sportsmanship in 2008. He later made his stock car debut, finishing fourth in the 2023 ARCA Menards Series points standings with Rette Jones Racing. He subsequently advanced to full-time competition in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with Team Reaume.

In addition to acting and driving, Muniz has explored music and entrepreneurship. He performed as a drummer for the musical groups You Hang Up and Kingsfoil, and later took on management duties for the band Astro Lasso. In business, he invested in real estate, including commercial parking lots in Los Angeles, and co-owned a specialty oil and vinegar store in Scottsdale, Arizona, which he operated until 2020.
