Michael Gandolfini

Michael Gandolfini is an American performer who gained prominent recognition for playing the younger version of Tony Soprano in the feature film The Many Saints of Newark. The iconic role was originally originated by his father, James Gandolfini, in the television show The Sopranos. In addition to this breakthrough performance, he has appeared in various prominent television programs and major feature film projects.

Born on May 10, 1999, in New York City, Gandolfini is the son of James Gandolfini and Marcy Wudarski. Through his parents, he shares Italian, Polish, and Slovak ancestry, and he also has a younger half-sister from his father's subsequent marriage. Although he expressed an interest in acting as a teenager, his father initially encouraged him to pursue athletics or directing instead of working in front of the camera.

Following the death of his father in June 2013, Gandolfini decided to follow a professional path in acting. Upon graduating from high school, he attended New York University to study the craft. Soon after participating in initial auditions, he earned a television role portraying the character Joey Dwyer in the HBO drama series The Deuce.

In 2018, Gandolfini made his major feature film debut in Ocean's 8. The following year, he secured the role of young Tony Soprano in the prequel movie The Many Saints of Newark. Prior to his casting, Gandolfini had never viewed his father's acclaimed series, describing the process of watching the show to prepare for the audition and performance as an intense personal experience.

Following his work on the prequel film, Gandolfini continued to secure roles in notable cinematic and television productions. He appeared in the crime drama movie Cherry, directed by the Russo brothers. He was later cast in the war film Warfare, directed and written by Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza, as well as the Marvel Cinematic Universe television project Daredevil: Born Again, where he was selected to play the character Daniel Blake.

In his personal life, Gandolfini has maintained a lifestyle of sobriety, having been sober since 2017.
