Archie Madekwe

Archie Madekwe is an English actor who has performed extensively across television, film, and theatre. On television, he is widely recognized for his main role in the Apple TV+ science fiction series See, which ran from 2019 to 2022. His notable feature film credits include roles in Midsommar, Gran Turismo, and Saltburn.

Madekwe was born in South London and is of English, Nigerian, and Swiss descent. Actress Ashley Madekwe is his cousin. At the age of 14, he began attending the BRIT School and joined the National Youth Theatre. He later pursued higher education at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), though he left the program early to take a role in a professional stage production.

His screen career began in 2014 when he made his television debut with a guest role in the BBC medical drama Casualty. In 2016, he appeared as Luca in two episodes of the Channel 4 comedy-drama Fresh Meat. Madekwe then made his West End debut in 2017 starring in The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? at the Theatre Royal Haymarket alongside Damian Lewis and Sophie Okonedo. His performance in the play led directly to his first named film role as Luke in Teen Spirit, and he was named a Screen International Star of Tomorrow that same year. He also appeared in the Channel 4 sitcom Hang Ups in 2017.

In 2019, Madekwe took on the role of Kofun in Apple TV+'s See, appeared as Courfeyrac in the BBC One adaptation of Les Misérables, and played Simon in Ari Aster's folk horror film Midsommar. His work continued in 2021 with a role in the feature film Voyagers and a voice role as Sedgwick in the Emmy-winning episode Ice of the Netflix animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots.

Madekwe starred in Neill Blomkamp's true-story sports drama Gran Turismo in 2023. That same year, he appeared in the Netflix feature Heart of Stone and had a leading role in Emerald Fennell's film Saltburn.

In 2025, Madekwe starred in Alex Russel's debut film Lurker, which earned him a BAFTA Film Award nomination for the EE Rising Star Award and a Film Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. In 2026, he appeared in the series Steal and starred on stage in Simon Stone's adaptation of The Oresteia at The Bridge Theatre.
