Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt is a British actress of Indian origin who works primarily in Hindi cinema. Born on March 15, 1993, into a film-industry family, she is recognized as one of India's top-earning performers. She made an early appearance as a child actor in the 1999 thriller Sangharsh before landing her initial leading part in the 2012 teen movie Student of the Year. She subsequently gained wide recognition for depicting women navigating difficult life circumstances.

Bhatt was raised in Mumbai, India, by her father, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, and her mother, actress Soni Razdan. She attended Jamnabai Narsee School but left during the twelfth grade to concentrate on acting. Interested in performing from an early age, she took dance classes at Shiamak Davar's institute. She grew up alongside an elder sister, two half-siblings, and several relatives connected to the Indian entertainment industry.

Following her debut lead role, Bhatt established her career in 2014 with critical and commercial successes. She starred as an abduction victim in the road drama Highway, which earned her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress. That same year, she starred in the popular romantic films 2 States and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, followed by the 2015 romantic comedy Shaandaar. She further expanded her screen credits in 2016 with roles in the ensemble drama Kapoor & Sons, the crime feature Udta Punjab, and the coming-of-age film Dear Zindagi.

Her success continued with major roles in the romantic comedy Badrinath Ki Dulhania in 2017 and the espionage thriller Raazi in 2018. In 2019, she starred in the musical drama Gully Boy, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and earned widespread commercial success. That same year, she established her own production company, Eternal Sunshine Productions, and appeared in the ensemble period drama Kalank, followed by the streaming feature Sadak 2 in 2020.

In 2022, Bhatt portrayed the title character in the biographical drama Gangubai Kathiawadi, earning a National Film Award for Best Actress alongside a Filmfare Award. Her work that year also included producing and starring in the dark comedy Darlings, as well as appearing in the fantasy film Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva. She achieved additional commercial success and awards recognition with the romantic comedy Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in 2023 and the action thriller Jigra in 2024, the latter of which she co-produced.

Beyond her acting career, Bhatt has engaged in business and charitable activities. She launched an ecological venture called CoExist in 2017 and founded the sustainable clothing line Ed-a-Mamma in 2022. Additionally, she has recorded several songs for her film soundtracks, including "Samjhawan Unplugged." In her personal life, she is married to actor Ranbir Kapoor, with whom she has a daughter named Raha. Her industry influence led to her inclusion on Time magazine's lists of impactful and influential global figures in 2022 and 2024.
