Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Raj Kapoor, born on September 28, 1982, in Bombay, is an Indian actor who works in Hindi cinema. Raised in a secular household by actor parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, he belongs to a prominent film family as the grandson of Raj Kapoor and great-grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor. Growing up amidst his parents' strained marriage, he channeled his complex emotional experiences into a passion for cinema. After attending Bombay Scottish School and H.R. College, he studied filmmaking at the School of Visual Arts and method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City. He gained early industry exposure by assisting his father on the 1999 film Aa Ab Laut Chalen and later served as an assistant director on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2005 production Black.

Kapoor made his acting debut in Bhansali's 2007 romantic tragedy Saawariya. While the film was a commercial failure, his performance earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He attained his initial commercial success with the 2008 romantic comedy Bachna Ae Haseeno. In 2009, he expanded his reputation with distinct roles in Wake Up Sid, the slapstick hit Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, which collectively won him the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor. The following year, he starred in the ensemble political drama Raajneeti, which became a major financial success.

Kapoor consolidated his status as a top leading actor through consecutive critically acclaimed roles. He portrayed a troubled musician in Rockstar (2011) and a deaf-and-mute man in Barfi! (2012), earning back-to-back Filmfare Awards for Best Actor. He achieved further box-office success with the 2013 romantic comedy Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which became one of the highest-grossing Indian films up to that time.

Following a period marked by several commercial disappointments, including Roy and the period crime drama Bombay Velvet, Kapoor returned to major success with the romantic drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016 and the 2018 biographical film Sanju. His portrayal of actor Sanjay Dutt in Sanju earned him his third Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

Following a temporary hiatus, Kapoor secured additional commercial triumphs in the fantasy feature Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva (2022) and the action drama Animal (2023). Animal emerged as his highest-earning release and brought him a fourth Filmfare Award for Best Actor, contributing to a career total of seven Filmfare Awards. His prominent status in Indian media has led to his inclusion in Forbes India's Celebrity 100 and the 2026 Time 100 list of global figures.

In addition to his film career, Kapoor supports various charitable initiatives and is a co-owner of the Indian Super League football team Mumbai City FC. He is married to actress Alia Bhatt, with whom he has a daughter named Raha.
