Born on March 3, 1987, and raised in Mumbai, Kapoor comes from a family with deep roots in the film industry. She is the daughter of actor Shakti Kapoor and Shivangi Kapoor, and the sister of actor Siddhanth Kapoor. Her maternal relatives, including her mother and aunts Padmini and Tejaswini Kolhapure, are actors, and she is a great-niece of renowned singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Kapoor attended Jamnabai Narsee School and later the American School of Bombay. She subsequently enrolled at Boston University to major in psychology, but she left during her first year after being discovered on social media for her screen debut.
