Chrissy Metz

Chrissy Metz is an American actress and singer born on September 29, 1980. She is best known for her role as Kate Pearson in the television drama series This Is Us, which aired from 2016 to 2022. Her work on the series brought her nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and two Golden Globe Awards.

Metz was born in Homestead, Florida. She spent her early years in Japan, where her father was stationed by the United States Navy. Her family later moved to Gainesville, Florida, where she attended elementary, middle, and high school. Growing up, she lived with her mother, stepfather, two siblings, and two half-siblings. Her first job was at a McDonald's restaurant in Gainesville.

In her acting career, Metz has studied with acting coach John Kirby. One of her early television roles was playing Ima Wiggles in FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show. Her breakout role came when she was cast as Kate Pearson in the NBC drama series This Is Us.

In addition to her television work, Metz has appeared in feature films. In 2018, she appeared in Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, and she starred as Joyce Smith in the 2019 film Breakthrough, working with producer DeVon Franklin. In Breakthrough, she portrayed the mother of a fourteen-year-old boy who fell through an icy Missouri lake. Her film credits also include Faith in the Flames: The Nichole Jolly Story in 2025. In 2021, she portrayed the ghost of Haunting Harriet in Muppets Haunted Mansion.

Metz is a singer in her band Chrissy and the Vapors. She has also appeared on reality television, serving as a guest panelist in season five of The Masked Singer in 2021. In 2024, she competed on the eleventh season of the show as "Poodle Moth." After losing to contestant Thelma Houston as "Clock" in the knockoffs on "Shower Anthem Night," panelist Rita Ora saved her using the Ding Dong Keep It On Bell following audience chanting. Metz was eventually eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Metz has participated in several holiday television and stage events. She was a guest narrator at Disney's Candlelight Processional at Walt Disney World in November 2023 and December 2024. She performed on the 2023 television special The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration and sang "Silver Bells" in the holiday special Christmas at the Opry in December of that year. She also co-wrote the children's book When I Talk to God, I Talk About You.

Metz is a Christian. She married British journalist Martyn Eaden in Santa Barbara, California, on January 5, 2008. The couple separated in January 2013, and Eaden filed for divorce in November 2014, citing irreconcilable differences. She subsequently dated This Is Us cameraman Josh Stancil from 2016 to 2018, composer Hal Rosenfeld from 2018 to 2020, and songwriter and former music executive Bradley Collins from 2020 to 2023 after meeting him on Bumble.
