Mark McGrath

Mark Sayers McGrath is an American singer and television personality best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Sugar Ray. Alongside his musical career, he has established a prominent career in broadcasting, hosting television programs such as Extra, Don't Forget the Lyrics!, and Killer Karaoke.

McGrath was born on March 15, 1968, in Hartford, Connecticut. At age eight, his family moved to Newport Beach, California. He attended Corona del Mar High School and later the University of Southern California, graduating with a communications degree in 1990. After college, McGrath experienced depression until his friend McG helped him secure a job driving a delivery truck, during which McGrath decided to continue his musical career.

In 1992, McGrath formed Sugar Ray in Orange County, California, alongside Rodney Sheppard, Murphy Karges, and Stan Frazier. After signing with Atlantic Records in 1994, the group achieved major success in 1997 with the song "Fly." McGrath gained widespread media recognition, appearing on the covers of Rolling Stone and Spin, as well as making frequent appearances on MTV and VH1. People magazine named him the "Sexiest Rocker" of 1998.

McGrath contributed the song "Reaching Out" to the tribute album Strait Up in memory of vocalist James Lynn Strait, and performed with Sevendust on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In 2012, he co-organized the SummerLand Tour, and in 2013, he formed the "Under the Sun Tour" featuring Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, Gin Blossoms, Vertical Horizon, and Fastball. He also appeared in the Smashing Pumpkins' 2018 music video for "Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)" and works as a DJ hosting the weekend show 120 on SiriusXM's 90s on 9.

McGrath served as co-host of Extra from 2004 to 2008. His other television hosting credits include Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll, Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious, Don't Forget the Lyrics!, Killer Karaoke, and the documentary series Dark Side of the 90s and Dark Side of the 2000s. As an actor, he performed with Sugar Ray in the 2002 film Scooby-Doo, starred in Sharknado 2: The Second One, and guest-starred on programs including Law and Order: SVU, Las Vegas, Workaholics, and Lady Dynamite.

In competitive television, McGrath is a three-time champion of VH1's Rock & Roll Jeopardy!, defeating Dave Mustaine and Gary Dell'Abate in the finals. He competed on The Celebrity Apprentice, Celebrity Wife Swap, Celebrity Big Brother, and as "Orca" on The Masked Singer. On September 24, 2012, McGrath married beautician Carin Kingsland, with whom he has twins born on April 29, 2010.
