Jesse Metcalfe

Jesse Eden Metcalfe is an American actor born on December 9, 1978. He is widely recognized for his roles as Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald on the NBC soap opera Passions, John Rowland on the ABC comedy-drama series Desperate Housewives, and the titular character in the feature film John Tucker Must Die. He has also starred as Christopher Ewing in the TNT continuation of Dallas and as Trace Riley on the Hallmark Channel series Chesapeake Shores.

Metcalfe was born in Carmel Valley Village, California, to Nancy DeMaio and Jeff Metcalfe. He is of Italian and French descent through his father, and Italian and Portuguese descent through his mother. During his teenage years in Waterford, Connecticut, he played in several basketball leagues. After graduating from The Williams School in New London, Connecticut, he attended New York University before dropping out to accept his role on Passions.

Metcalfe made his television debut on Passions in July 1999. In 2004, he left the show to focus full-time on Desperate Housewives, portraying teen gardener John Rowland. His work on the series earned him the Choice TV Breakout Performance: Male award at the 2005 Teen Choice Awards. Metcalfe continued appearing on Desperate Housewives as a recurring guest star through October 2009. In 2005, he also appeared in the music video for Let Me Go by 3 Doors Down.

In 2006, Metcalfe starred in the comedy film John Tucker Must Die, and hosted an episode of the British television chat show The Paul O'Grady Show to promote it. His subsequent film appearances included the 2008 horror film Insanitarium, the romantic film The Other End of the Line, and the 2009 remake of Beyond a Reasonable Doubt alongside Michael Douglas and Amber Tamblyn.

Returning to television, Metcalfe starred in the NBC crime drama series Chase in 2010 and appeared in the Hallmark movie Fairfield Road. In 2011, he joined the cast of the TNT drama series Dallas, playing Christopher Ewing from its 2012 premiere until its cancellation after three seasons in 2014.

Metcalfe continued working across various film and television projects. He starred as Chase Carter in Dead Rising: Watchtower in 2015 and reprised the role in the 2016 sequel Dead Rising: Endgame. His other film credits include A Country Wedding, God's Not Dead 2, Destined, Christmas Next Door, Escape Plan 2: Hades, The Ninth Passenger, and Christmas Under the Stars. From 2016 to 2021, he played Trace Riley in Chesapeake Shores, for which he also composed and performed music.

In 2020, Metcalfe began starring in the Martha's Vineyard Mysteries film series as retired detective Jeff Jackson, competed on the 29th season of Dancing with the Stars, and later appeared on the British version of The Masked Dancer in 2022 and the Roku original film Summer Sparks in 2026. His personal life includes relationships with singer Nadine Coyle, Cara Santana, and Helene Immel. He sought treatment for alcoholism in 2007 and survived a thirty-foot balcony fall in 2008.
