Over her career, she has earned recognition including two Soap Opera Digest Awards and a nomination for a Golden Globe Award.

Sheridan was born on November 21, 1963, in Worthing, England, to actress Sally Adams. When she was less than a year old, her father left the family. In 1969, her mother met actor Telly Savalas while working on a James Bond film, and Savalas became Sheridan's stepfather. Sheridan emigrated from the United Kingdom to the United States in 1973 at ten years of age.

She began her professional career as a fashion model, appearing in Vogue and on the cover of Cosmopolitan, as well as starring in a Martini television commercial. Sheridan made her acting debut in 1984 on the ABC television series Paper Dolls, followed by a role in the 1985 romantic comedy film The Sure Thing. In 1986, she joined the cast of Knots Landing as Paige Matheson, becoming a series regular by the 1988–89 season and remaining with the show until 1993. For her performance, she won Soap Opera Digest Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1990 and Outstanding Heroine in 1991.

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Sheridan starred in numerous television films, including Lucky Chances (1990), Virus (1995), and The People Next Door (1996). The case underwent several trials, appeals, and dismissals over subsequent years, with claims ultimately dismissed by the courts.

In her later career, Sheridan starred in and co-produced several Hallmark Channel films, including Honeymoon for One (2011), The Christmas Spirit (2013), and All Yours (2016). In 2018, she was cast as Alexis Carrington in Dynasty, leaving the role in 2019 due to family responsibilities. She launched her own skincare line, Biolumière Organics, in 2019.
