She also received Germany's Bambi Award, Italy's Il Gatto, and was named Woman of the Year by the Hollywood Radio & Television Society in 1982.
After Dallas, Gray co-starred in the 1991 film Oscar and made guest appearances on the British series Lovejoy. She starred in several television movies, including The Entertainers, Bonanza: The Return, Moment of Truth: Why My Daughter?, and Accidental Meeting. She guest-starred on Melrose Place before leading its spin-off series Models Inc. from 1994 to 1995. She later returned as Sue Ellen Ewing in the television movies Dallas: J.R. Returns in 1996 and Dallas: War of the Ewings in 1998.
Gray expanded into theater, portraying Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate in the West End in 2001 and on Broadway in 2002. She also made her stage directing debut with Murder in the First and performed in Terms of Endearment, Agnes of God, and Love Letters. Her television and film work during the 2000s included guest appearances on The Bold and the Beautiful and 90210, alongside roles in independent films such as Reflections of a Life and Hidden Moon.
From 2012 to 2014, Gray reprised Sue Ellen Ewing in TNT's continuation of Dallas. She subsequently played the Fairy Godmother in a London production of Cinderella, appeared in the Hallmark movie A Perfect Wedding, and took roles in Significant Mother, Winterthorne, Hollyoaks, and Hand of God. In 2023, she featured in the Lifetime television film Ladies of the '80s: A Divas Christmas.
Gray was married to art director Ed Thrasher from 1962 to 1983, with whom she had two children, Jeff and Kehly. She resides in Los Angeles, California.
