Amybeth McNulty

Amybeth McNulty is an Irish and Canadian actress who gained international recognition for playing the lead role of Anne Shirley-Cuthbert in the CBC and Netflix drama series Anne with an E from 2017 to 2019. She is also widely recognized for portraying Vickie in the popular Netflix science-fiction series Stranger Things.

McNulty was born on 7 November 2001 at Letterkenny General Hospital and was raised in Milford, a small town in County Donegal, Ireland. She is the only daughter of an Irish father and a Canadian mother and was educated through homeschooling. During her youth, she began her early artistic development in Letterkenny by taking acting and ballet lessons as a member of An Grianán Theatre's Youth Theatre.

Her professional acting screen debut came in 2014 when she appeared as Jenny Rane in the RTÉ One series Clean Break. The following year, McNulty portrayed a younger version of the main character in Agatha Raisin and guest-starred in the CBBC program The Sparticle Mystery. She transitioned to feature films with her debut in the sci-fi thriller Morgan, playing the ten-year-old version of the title character in a film that garnered mixed critical responses.

McNulty achieved her breakthrough after being selected from a pool of 1,800 candidates to star as Anne Shirley-Cuthbert in Anne with an E, an adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's 1908 book Anne of Green Gables. Her performance received strong critical praise and earned her both the Canadian Screen Award for Best Television Actress and the ACTRA Award for Best Performance – Female during the show's run from 2017 to 2019.

Following her breakthrough, McNulty starred in the 2020 film Black Medicine, playing a struggling teenager, and was cast in Michael McGowan's film adaptation of Miriam Toews's novel All My Puny Sorrows. She also filmed the lead role in the indie thriller She Came Back, originally titled Maternal, directed by Megan Follows and released in 2024. In June 2021, McNulty joined the cast of Stranger Things for its fourth season as Vickie, returning to play the character in the fifth and final season.

In June 2026, McNulty was announced as a lead in Lucy Maud, a biographical series centered on author Lucy Maud Montgomery, where she stars alongside Megan Follows. On a personal level, McNulty relocated to London from Donegal at the age of 19, publically came out as bisexual in June 2020, and is a vegetarian.
