Niall Horan

Niall James Horan is an Irish singer, songwriter, musician, and multi-instrumentalist. He first gained global prominence as a member of the boy band One Direction, which was formed in 2010 during the singing competition series The X Factor. Following the group's hiatus declaration in 2016, Horan established a solo career, signing a recording contract with Capitol Records and achieving international commercial success.

Horan was born on 13 September 1993 in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland, to Bobby Horan and Maura Gallagher. He attended Coláiste Mhuire secondary school and taught himself to play the guitar using online tutorials after picking up an instrument owned by his older brother, Greg. During his teenage years, Horan performed at a local fundraiser at the Mullingar Arts Centre and secured a supporting slot for former X Factor contestant Lloyd Daniels at the Academy club in Dublin.

In 2010, at age 16, Horan auditioned for The X Factor in Dublin with Ne-Yo's song "So Sick." Although he did not advance in the solo category during bootcamp, guest judge Nicole Scherzinger suggested joining him with four other contestants—Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik—to form One Direction. The group reached the final stages of the competition and subsequently signed a contract with Simon Cowell's Syco record label. One Direction released five studio albums between 2011 and 2015, becoming one of the best-selling boy bands of all time before entering an indefinite hiatus.

As a solo artist, Horan released his debut single, "This Town," in September 2016, followed by "Slow Hands" in May 2017. His debut studio album, Flicker, was released in October 2017 and debuted at number one in both Ireland and the United States. He followed this with his second album, Heartbreak Weather, in March 2020, which topped the UK Albums Chart. In June 2023, Horan released his third album, The Show, which debuted at number one in Ireland and the UK. His fourth studio album, Dinner Party, was released in June 2026 and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart, preceded by the singles "Dinner Party," "Little More Time," and "End of an Era."

Throughout his solo music career, Horan has conducted several international concert tours, including the Flicker World Tour and The Show: Live on Tour, the latter of which surpassed one million ticket sales in 2024. He has also collaborated on musical tracks with artists such as Maren Morris, Julia Michaels, Ashe, Anne-Marie, Thomas Rhett, Myles Smith, and Ella Bright.

In addition to his recording work, Horan served as a coach on the 23rd, 24th, and 28th seasons of the television competition series The Voice. Mentoring winning contestants Gina Miles, Huntley, and Aiden Ross, he became the first coach in the show's history to win their first three seasons. Outside of entertainment, Horan co-founded Modest Golf Management in 2016 and has participated in philanthropic campaigns for organizations including Irish Autism Action, UNICEF, Cancer Research UK, and The Black Heart Foundation.
