Kristen Jaymes Stewart is an American actress and filmmaker. Known for her work across major studio blockbusters and independent arthouse dramas, her films have collectively grossed over $4 billion worldwide, and she has been ranked among the world's highest-paid actors. Her accolades include a British Academy Film Award and a César Award, along with nominations for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award.

Stewart was born in Los Angeles, California, on April 9, 1990. Her father, John Stewart, is a stage manager and television producer, and her mother, Jules Mann-Stewart, is an Australian-born script supervisor and filmmaker. Stewart grew up in the San Fernando Valley and attended local schools until the seventh grade. As she became more involved in acting, she continued her education through distance learning until graduating from high school.

She began acting at age eight after being spotted in an elementary school Christmas play, making her screen debut with a small, nonspeaking role in the television film The Thirteenth Year. Stewart's breakthrough came at age 12 when she played the daughter of Jodie Foster's character in David Fincher's thriller Panic Room (2002), earning a Young Artist Award nomination. She subsequently appeared in films such as Cold Creek Manor (2003), Catch That Kid (2004), Speak (2004), Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005), and Into the Wild (2007).

Stewart achieved international stardom portraying Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga film series alongside Robert Pattinson. For her role in Olivier Assayas' Clouds of Sils Maria (2014), she won the César Award for Best Supporting Actress, becoming the second American actor to win a César Award. She continued to star in independent and dramatic projects, including Personal Shopper (2016), Seberg (2019), and Love Lies Bleeding (2024).

Stewart received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her portrayal of Diana, Princess of Wales, in the biographical drama Spencer (2021). As a director, her work includes music videos, the short film Come Swim (2017), and her feature film directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival on May 16, 2025.
